Ok, so I've got 2 friends I'm hooking up with eGo kits and supplies like cartos and juice selection for xmas and trying to help get off the butts. I thought I got really lucky when I found a deals & steals listing for 'buy 1 get 1' double ship offer from majicvapor last week. They didn't have a huge selection of colors, so I ordered a black one, and they were to send me two black ego kits for same price. It was a great deal, i was thrilled.

So they arrived. Turns out, though they were listed as Joye ego, they're definitely knockoffs cause the metal on em is gold and the manual button isn't indented. But that's not a huge deal, is it? The knockoffs work pretty much the same, right? The other problem is they ran out of stock (cause it WAS such a good deal) and so they sent me a black ego kit and a white ego kit. The black one has to go to the guy, cause he's sort of a bad azz biker dude, and white fo'sho' won't work for him. But as for the white one... it just looks ODD to me. I contacted vendor, they said they might consider a switch when they get more stock in, but its not 100% and they don't know when new stock will arrive.

So what do you guys think? Is a white eGo too weird looking for a gift? Do many people choose white? My concern is that the gift recipient is a great friend, and she's also an avid artist and a gardener. I just forsee big messes all on the white pv, and she's rather neat, so I think that might make her crazy. Anyone like the look of the white ego units? Is it worth returning both and paying much more? I just hate to get her something she's been wanting to try if its visually not going to appeal. I personally don't like the white much, but I have strange taste, and was wondering what you guys think. Any opinions?

Thanks so much!

Does the button light up blue when you press it? You might have a Riva 510, a high-quality eGo clone (I prefer it to the eGo).

I would go ahead and give her the white one. If she likes vaping, she'll soon be ordering her own batts, etc. I can see how a white eGo batt with a black carto might look kind of cool.

I know it's a gift, so you are stressing about it, but it's all about kicking the analogs, not looking cool. It was trying to look cool that got a lot of us into this mess when we were teenagers...

Huh. I don't know about the light...lemme charge this sucker up and see what color it is. And as for the looking cool thing, you are absolutely right about that! I'll get back to ya on the light thing. Lemme see if i can find a picture of what i've got here, maybe that'll show what variety of knockoff I've got here. Drat. Their server is down. I'll post photo as soon as I can snaggle one. Thanks!

eGo will be a bluish white light, the button kind of clear, bluish plastic. A Riva will be a definite blue light and the button is opaque. Either is fine. The Riva will also have the name Riva etched around the battery connection. The eGo won't have identifying markings.

eGo is 3.4v and Riva is 3.7v. The reason for that is the eGo uses pulse width modulation to keep the voltage constant through the charge life. The Riva starts at 3.7v and will gradually fall over a number of hours to around 3.2v before cutoff. When it blinks 7 to 10 times and quits, charge it.

Ok, so is it possible its neither a Joye eGo or a Riva? I tried to grab pics, but the vendors server keeps dying.

Its a shiny white metal. The parts that are usually silver on an ego (around where the manual light is) are gold on this thing. The light isn't indented, is opaque, and definitely lights up very blue, as opposed to whiteish blue, BUT it doesn't say Riva around the battery.

Thoughts? Now I'm not just concerned about the color, i don't want to give her something super cheapy if its going to die in a few mos.

Looks like an eGo battery to me. I wouldn't worry about the quality. If they work, they work. Occasionally, people have early failures on genuine eGo and Riva batteries. They are a consumable item and will need to be replaced at some point. I had one eGo brand battery purchased from a supplier fail in the first 5 weeks. Another one from the same order is still going after a year.

eGo parts are branded for suppliers these days, too. I have genuine eGo batts that say Awesome Vapor on the side and eGo batts that are etched one the end with the Cignot logo. I'm sure lots of them are sold with no marking at all in the metal parts.

You know what? I actually have a slew of unopened packages of floral nail decals and swar. crystals! That is a truly killer idea! I'm actually hunting for a shape template for an ego battery and cone, now, so I can photoshop a cool design (she's into vintage asian tapestries) onto some sticky vinyl i have to make a skin for an old passthrough I have. Its pink, and she DESPISES pink. rofl So if i give her a decorated, decoupaged skinned passthrough battery and cone that match, and then the 'blank canvas' white kit with some gems and stickers and blank sticky vinyl, she can go to town. We actually met thru digital art sites, so that's pretty much perfect. Vchick, you have officially made my day! Now i just have to figure out how to get a blank shape template to make the eGo cone skin. I can't measure to save my life! rofl That conical shape is sure to confound me. Someone's gotta have one around here, right? lol

The white ones are nice and since your friend is an artist, it can be etched. Yes etched. I have seen some beautifully crafted white eGo's. What is used to etch them with is beyond me but really neat looking PV's when they are done. As for knockoffs, they are just as good as regular eGo's. I would bet money that they are Riva's which I like even more.
