I just placed an order for the Riva 510 starter kit, as well as 510 BOGE SOFT CAP Blank Cartomizers and a bottle of e-liquid. I want to test both the atomizer and the cartomizers to see which one I like.

What types of things can I do to break this thing? As I stated in a previous post, I tried the Blu a while back, and I am thinking now that I may have wrecked the atomizers. I have read so much info on these boards, my brain is on overload, and I am having a hard time remembering every single piece of info I have read. Any dos or don't dos are greatly appreciated.

I think I read somewhere that if your atomizer dries out, it could break it. How do you know when it is about to dry out? Also, I have been smoking roughly a pack to 2 packs a day for over 15 years. Can I treat this thing like a regular cigarette, puffing 10-20 times in the space of a couple minutes? I read that I should puff long and slow, but how many puffs per minute is too much? Is it just a matter of running out the battery, or can overuse break it?

First...fill the Boge cartos, and let them SIT for a while. Hours or overnight are best. Pop the white cap/mouthpiece off and look at the filler...if it's white and cottony looking, it's dry. I tilt it, add a few drops, roll it around, tilt add a few drops, etc etc. Don't put the liquid in too quickly ... give it time to absorb into the filler. Also, try not to get it into the air tube in the middle. However, you probably will get some in there, so do all this over a paper towel. Then, once it's had a chance to soak in...pop the top off again, and take a look. Top it off with a few more drops, then put top on, blow into the paper towel (to get the liquid out of the tube LOL), then vape.

You can TELL when it's getting dry. It just feels/tastes different. Drier. If it tastes burnt...or like plastic...it's FAR too dry. You can try adding liquid, but if you burn the filler, you may have killed it (for a carto). With an atomizer and cart, you can just change out the filler and start over.

Dropping the atomizer or cartomizer on a hard surface, like a tile floor, can also break the coil inside and kill it. You vape and get......NOTHING. Toss it at that point. It's very dead.

I'd go with the long drags, and you can do that every 30 seconds or so...until the battery dies. You'll have to figure out the best way to draw for you. I push the button for a second, draw while still pushing button, and keep drawing when I release.

Eventually the atomizer or cartomizer is going to be harder to draw on. It's getting gunked up. At that point, you need to clean them, but that's another whole process. :)

Your atomizer is fine when dry ... IF you don't fire it. Without power, no problem.

Long and slow seems to be the most effective. Largely because of the limited speed of wicking of juice. You'll know if you're outpacing your wicking capability by the taste going downhill, tasting burned. This won't harm the battery, just use up your charge faster.

Welcome to the forum mrtiedye! If your atomizer dries out, it can get too hot and make your vape taste burnt. Usually this is all the signal you will need that it's time to top off your juice. Too wet and it won't produce vapor well either, the trick is getting it "just right". The Riva is a manual e-cig, meaning the battery doesn't have an automatic cut off time limit on your drags. You are in control. That being said, I just tested how many puffs per minute I could do comfortably and only got to 4. If you pull on it correctly, I doubt if you'll be able to get in 10-20. If you did, your atomizer would get very hot and dry out pretty quickly. Of course the more you make the battery engage by puffing on it, the faster it will run down but as far as I know, it won't "break" because of it.

I blow out the air channel while the cap is off. I tilt the open end down into a tissue and puff into the threaded end. You should ne able to see light through the carto. If the air channel has gotten crooked so the drag is hard and you cannot see light, you can use a small well-straightened paper clip down the air channel to try to gently straighten it. Then if there is any liquid pooled above the stuffing I clean that up with a folded bit of tissue (otherwise that could end up in your mouth).

With the Boges you can use a plastic or delrin drip tip as a mouthpiece if you want and that can be removed easily for adding juice.

If you are using an atty and the vapor seems light or a bit dry then it probably needs more liquid (or if you are using a cart with it it might also need the stuffing adjusted to contact the atty better). If the atty is getting abnormally not then it needs something - more juice, fix stuffing if using a cartridge, clean the atty. If it's not very hot and not making enough vapor it may be flooded - remove the atty and blow it out.

Cartos - when the vapor get light or a bit dry in a way that holding the ecig carto down for 5 seconds doesn't fix, take the carto off the battery and add some juice.

Always make sure your carto or atty and battery connections are dry and clean, especially before connecting them or putting a battery on a charger.
