 I am getting kind of lost in forums, all so new but have a question. I just ordered my 510 today and have been reading about the passthroughs, some say it may harm your computer so to be sure to use the wall adapter with it if you are concerned. Not sure what to think and my supplier site does not carry these right now. I am in Arizona if someone could let me know where to look for one, please let me know.

buy a usb hub with an external power supply and you will be fine. The hubs with the power supply will guarantee you are receiving 5 volts and if anything goes wrong it will fry the hub and not your computer. I found mine at best buy for $20.

Being a computer tech i would have to say your more then likely worried about nothing. Your computer would have to be running a really old under powered PSU ( power supply unit) for a passthru to have any affect on it. I did read a thread and the guy that was having problems was using a underpowered PSU and had his system taxed to the limit. He was more then likely having other issues too. Basicly a usb power adapter that you plug in a wall is 5volts and .500mA that equals 2.5 watts. If your passthru cuts the voltage to 3.7 volts your looking at less then 2 watts. Really this is just a really tiny bit of what the computer Power supply can handle. Anyways i hook my passthu up to my computer port with no worries at all.

Edit: If your in AZ close to Tucson http://www.freedomsmokeusa.com/is here. You can give them a call and i sure they will have no problem letting you stop by and pick up a adapter if you are really worried about it.

Desktops are better for it really. Although i still wouldnt hesitate to use a laptop as long as it was plugged in. Unplugged the laptop would be running off the battery So it would not be a good idea doing that alot. If you tell your Brand PC and model number i can find out what PSU you have in it. You pretty much have to go back to the 90's to have one with a low powered PSU.

I'm a programmer and have been for many a moon. Some laptops/ desktops usb ports are junk even today. If you run a lot of usb stuff on your system do not use passthrough on your system. I have seen damage done to studio computers that have audio interfaces, large keyboards simths plugged in. each device takes something from the system. Get a powered hub or plug in usb connection and you'll be fine. Don't chance a 3500 macbook pros motherboard being shot when a $15 powered hub can solve and questions about power you have. Never plug in a 5 volt pass ever to your computer.

Parallex2 and eddie201011 make good points. Some USB PTs have a battery attached and vape at 3.x volts. Others are designed for 5 volts "straight thru" and need a ton of amps.

I have the Welcome to MadVapes LLC 5 v PT and wall-wart (2 amp). Warning tho: the wall-wart emits some RF interference in the AM band if you listen to radio near it (lol). Seems to work for the PT well enough.

The battery ones draw fewer amps and more or less just charge the battery via a USB port. Unplug when you use em (charge-n-go) types.
