I ordered an EHPRO Origin clone and hcigar Aqua clone. From what I've read about the hcigar version of the Aqua requires some alterations to be made (drilling for air holes) for best performance. I will follow the youtube tutorial on this when I get the aqua. The aqua also comes with a hybrid adapter for the Origin. I also purchased Origin switch magnets and two Sony US18650VTC4 2100mAh 30A flat top batteries.

What does running in hybrid mean and how is it beneficial (as opposed to not running in hybrid)?
Can I fit an 18650 and a kick inside the Origin? Or do I need an 18500 for this? Flat top or button top for the Origin mod, does it matter?

And lastly a question about the batteries I ordered, here are the specs:

  • Nominal Capcity: 2100 mAh
  • Rated Capaciity: 2000 mAh
  • Nominal voltage: 3.7v
  • Voltage after a fresh charge: 4.2 +/- .05v
  • Do not discharge this battery below: 2.5v
  • Maximum charge voltage: 4.25
  • Continuous Maximum Charge Current: 10 amps
  • Continuous Maximum Discharge Current: 30 amps

So when fully charged these are 4.2V correct? And that is the number I should use for voltage in ohms law? What does the 3.7 nominal voltage represent?

And lastly I know over discharging is bad. Other than taking a multimeter to the battery, how will I know when my battery needs to be removed and recharged? And what is the lowest voltage of the battery I can run on before its time to remove and recharge?

Thanks

Theoretically, running in hybrid mode should mean slightly less voltage drop when firing the atomizer, because you're bypassing the 510 connector. In practice, you may not see a difference, vape-wise, depending on how well the mod was made.

You can use an 18650 and a kick. Button or flat top depends on tolerances. You may find that you need to remove the plastic spacer and the adjustable negative post from the button to get the threads to seat fully.

Yes, fresh off the charger, those batteries should be at 4.2 volts, and for an additional safety margin, use that 4.2 volts to calculate your current.

"Nominal" voltage takes a little explanation. When a battery goes from its fully charged state to a fully discharged state, its voltage drops. Nominal voltage is basically the best approximation of its voltage output - think of it as sort of its "average" voltage.

And lastly I know over discharging is bad. Other than taking a multimeter to the battery, how will I know when my battery needs to be removed and recharged? And what is the lowest voltage of the battery I can run on before its time to remove and recharge?

Without a multimeter, it's difficult to estimate a battery's condition other than a noticeable drop in vape quality.

A cheap multimeter can be had for less than $10, about the same cost as an 18650.

Trying to "guess" when it's time to charge can be risky, if you over-discharge your battery (or over-charge, for that matter) you WILL shorten the life of your battery.

Once you get a feel for it, you'll know when it's time to recharge. When I use a mech, I usually get mine on the charger when the battery's resting voltage is around 3.5 - 3.6 volts.

I was going to answer, but K_Tech really hit the nails right on the head!

I too have an Origin and Aqua (both authentic though)....I run them in Hybrid - basically this elminates the 510 connection so that the Aqua will directly make contact with the top of your battery. This will provide a better connection which may result in a better vape (plus it looks better!!).

You did good by choosing the VTC4 battery....it is a VERY good battery that can withstand pretty much anything you throw at it.....It will read 4.2(ish) volts when fresh off the charger, but will drop to 3.7 volts pretty quickly. The battery will then sort of hang at 3.7(ish) volts for a while before tailing off after that. I usually put my VTC4s on the charger when they reach 3.6 volts, just to be safe.....
