Origin of Clapton wire

I know that clapton wire was first made by a former (or current) ECF member with the user name of mrdee3 although his last post here was 2 years ago. What I don't know is where the name clapton came from. Is it because it resembles steel guitar strings?

I am just curious and was wondering if anyone might know where the name came from?

Yes it resembles a guitar string, Eric Clapton is a guitarist.
