I used pipette pumps like this all the time when I used to do lab work. I didn't end up getting any for DIY because I was concerned that the viscosity of the liquid would cause it to stick inside the glass/plastic pipette and I would end up losing a lot of liquid. Also, cleaning the long pipettes can be troublesome and time consuming.

In the lab we had a special apparatus to clean them. Like this.

Probably, for DIY, just rinsing them out would be sufficient, but it would take them a long time to dry inside. I don't know, it just didn't seem worth the trouble to me. Syringes measure accurately enough, and you can use the plunger to make sure all the liquid is squeezed off the sides of the syringe barrel.

Just my 2 cents...

I dry them pretty easily, just hold them up with chopsticks and blow my hair dryer on them, drys in under a minute. This is for the glass pipettes. I just wash them like I do everything else. Almost boiling but not quite, distilled water pressure-pushed through the tube. Its handy I have a pressure valve on my water dispenser and the water is distilled (positives and negatives of living in a country without potable water).

Its true though, when I work with VG some does stick to the sides and requires extra pumps. PG is no problem though.

My biggest issue with using pipettes is breakage. The pipes are not cheap where I am, and while they can survive a short drop (eg I am sitting and DIYing), a longer drop breaks them (eg I am standing).
