This afternoon I'll be headed to Fire Mountain Scout Camp to teach Archery to a whole lot of Cub Scouts. :) My Grandson Joseph will be helping me out again this year. :) We will be teaching the scouts for 3 days. :) It should be Lots of fun like it has been for the last 4 years that I've been doing it! (my goodness, where did those other 4 years go? :( )

:) Things like that happen all of the time! ;) :) :D You just didn't have me as your teacher! ;) :D

I was taught by an old archer that could light wooden matches with his arrows. :) I have never become that good of an archer, but I'm still learning and trying! :) I promised him that someday I would pass down his teachings, so I'm trying to keep my promise. :)

This is going to be the smallest group of kids I have ever taught. :( School isn't out yet and the weather has been pretty nasty, so a lot of the parents aren't sending their kids to camp. :( So we are doing a twilight camp. There will only be 120 kids go through the archery class. :(

Today we had 40 kids go through the range and we had 6 that did great. One was Top Shooter for the day scoring a Bullseye and another that scored a 9 on two separate times on the line . :)

Will was Top Shooter:

Timmy was Top Shot of the day:

I never had archery classes, but my dad bought a bow and arrows when we were kids. We would shoot for hours. We were always taught respect and proper handling of weapons (being from Texas, it's a requirement ;) ). I can even remember pulling them out in the morning and using them in the front yard when we were waiting for the school bus! Man, we wore those things out! I don't remember if any of us were any good with them, but we've been shooting all kinds of things since we were young, so we all have pretty good aim. We would always find some piece of cardboard laying around to draw a target on. Ahhh, good memories :D

I am so very Proud of "my Boys"! :) Each and Every Scout today Tried His Best to Excel! :) We started the day off with a Flag Ceremony. After that the Leaders had to go to the front of the group and present the 2 Top Shooters of the First day with their photos I had printed out. They had to stand in front of the whole group while I told everyone how great they had done and how Very Proud I was of them. :) The looks on their faces meant the world to me and it set the tone of the rest of the day! :) My heart is so full of joy right now that it will not let my mind unwind so I can go to bed! ;) :)

I plan on doing the same thing tomorrow! :) Sadly, tomorrow is the last day I will be teaching the boys, but I plan on driving out the next day to present the Top Shooters with their photos. :) The price of the gas out there to do that is money well spent just seeing their faces. :)

If I can just make a tiny mark on their lives and nudge them to being Upstanding Pillars of their Communities instead of Drug Addicts I feel my time is well spent! :)

We had a Lot of Good Shooters during the 3 days of camp and I'm Extremely Proud of Each and Every Boy that went through the Archery Course!

We even had one of the Den Leaders shoot a bow for her very first time. So she gets the award for The Prettiest Cub Scout Archer!

she did amazingly well for a beginning archer that had a bow that was way to small for her.
