Everything in Washington is beautiful. So is this thread open for everyone to share their pics Richard or do you want to keep this as your thread for your pics ;)

Fantastic pics btw, I wish I could get such good captures.

Cool thread GPR. I didnt see any other general post your photo threads. I like looking at peoples pictures.

GPR, do you know what I could have done with this last photo to prevent so much orange reflection on his face. Should I have put a silver reflector somewhere or could I fix it in post somehow.

dirquist,
What a Cute Little Man! :) Awesome photos that you took of him. :) I hope you don't mind, but I saved the problem one to my computer and then I ran it through Adobe Lightroom. :) Over saturation of predominate colors is indeed Tough to control. You did an awesome job of taking the photo and the editing that you did. Adobe Lightroom has a color tone control for the main colors of the spectrum. I just did a very minor adjustment of the color Orange and this is what I came up with:

Thats looks great GPR. Lightroom 3 just went on sale at at several places Feb 14 for cheap. I picked it up for $79 at Adorama only to see it go up on B&H for $69. Adorama went into backorder on a lot of people that ordered during the 1 day sale and it didnt ship until yesterday so 5 or 7 days more.

What did show up is Photoshop Elements 10 which is tricky so far but there is a book Im about to order on it. Do you have any recommendations on how to go about learning PE10 or Lightroom beyond youtube and actual physical classes. I learn through books pretty good and have a recommendation for one but curious what you think.

Ive been working on Aperture and Manual mode the most lately and trying to get a better handle on exposure and things like the sunny 16 rule since I enjoy daytime photo taking of the kid. Let say its hard and photographers got my respect.

Im just a lucky shooter parent that needed a hobby. Im not even sure of the exif on both the pics I posted but my guess is they were in auto mode. I tend to do that when I get scared I might miss a shot. Ug, I dont know which way to go with photography. Either just shoot in auto mode and have fun but only get that amazing shot every now and again or really dive in deep and spend years to just become somewhat proficient in the manual modes, but with the potential of creating real art in the long term future.

Thanks so much for playing around with my photos. I really like what you did and Im going to try to recreate myself and post back.

I'm not sure about PE10, I have never used that program, so I can't help you out there. :(

Here is a link to a great tutorial of Lightroom: Lightroom Tutorial and Walkthrough You might have to join the forum to be able to view the tutorials, but it is well worth the time and effort! :) I have learned a lot by going through them and using them as a reference. :)

Photography is only as hard as you make it. Actually, in a nutshell, an easy way to look at photography is to Use Your Eyes! If your eye has to squint because of bright light, you need to close down your lens opening (the higher numbers like f/16 to f/32. Medium light requires a larger opening like f/6.3 to f/11. And less light needs even bigger openings like f/1.2 to f/5.6.

You can get creative with ISO (film) speeds by shooting Higher ISO speeds, but then you have to deal with more noise (graininess) in your photos. I prefer to keep my ISO at 200. That way I get good color rendition, less noise and more pleasing to the eye photos. :)

Another way to control your camera and to work around ISO and Shutter settings is to control the shutter speeds that you are shooting at. I am extremely Lucky to have Very Steady Hands, so I can hand hold my camera at very slow shutter speeds. :) (even with my 400 mm. lens and a 2X extender to make it an 800 mm. lens. :) ) The normal rule of thumb is to make your shutter speed equal or higher than the lens size. (with a 400 mm. lens it is suggested to set your shutter speed at 1/400 th. of a second.) I can beat that and hand hold with a slow shutter speed of down to 1/60 th. of a second. :)

The absolute Best Way to Learn Photography is to Get Out There and Experiment! :)
