I was sitting in a waiting room reading a business magazine, because that was all they had. There was a story about a startup company selling what looked like a vaping gadget so I read it. It was actually something different. You put a small wad of tobacco in a combustion chamber where it is heated up to a precise temperature at which the nicotine supposedly vaporizes, then you inhale the vapor. The article suggested that the tar and other bad stuff was left behind. Most of their target buyers apparently use it for something else but they have to advertise it only for use with tobacco. Don't remember exactly but it cost a bunch, several hundred dollars I think.

I never heard of this before. I wonder how this fits into the vaping world.

This is one of a number of tobacco vaporizers on the market

https://www.ploom.com

There are others if you do some searching. There are a lot of Youtube videos on the Ploom.

This is a legitimate tobacco harm reduction method as the vast majority of harm caused by tobacco is from combustion. An interesting note is that a good amount of the nicotine is burned up in combustion, but a device that does not burn is more efficient so less tobacco can be used to get the same satisfaction level. There is no reason to believe the use of vaporized tobacco is any more risky then vaporized nicotine.

I picked up a Ploom Model 2 about 3 months ago when I was getting back into vaping. The smokeshop where I was picking up cartos for my 808 had one that a rep from Ploom had left and they gave it to me for a very deep discount. The idea is interesting, but the problem for Ploom is their flavors are all tobacco based and that base tobacco is disgusting. There is very little vapor to boot. I haven't touched it in months and only keep it around in the hopes that I can find a use for it. I'm not a {other stuff} type of guy, so I can't envision anything to do with it.
