The next time you hear a politician use the
Word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about
whether you want the 'politicians' spending
YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
But one advertising agency did a good job of
Putting that figure into some perspective in
One of its releases.

A.

A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B.

A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C.

A billion hours ago our ancestors were
living in the Stone Age.

D.

A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

E.
A billion dollars ago was only
8 hours and 20 minutes,
at the rate our government
is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain...
let's take a look at New Orleans ....
It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

Louisiana Senator,
Mary Landrieu (D)
was asking Congress for

250
BILLION DOLLARS
To
rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number...
What does it mean?

A.

Well .. If you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans
(every man, woman and child)
You each get
$516,528

B.

Or... If you have one of the 188,251 homes in
New Orleans , your home gets
$1,329,787.

C.

Or... If you are a family of four...
Your family gets
$2,066,012.

Washington , D.C

As it relates to us, the government has been taxing cigarettes for decades. Why did they not come up with effective methods to help us quit? The government was happy to collect all my tax dollars for years but did little, if anything, to help me quit. If anything some of their methods actually enforced smoking amongst certain groups within the the population.

It is reasonable to say that those that have quit with the patch or Chantix, should pay as they were helped. On the other hand, I found e-cigs on my own. At this rate, e-cigs will be helping far more people in a much shorter time span and with zero government involvement.

I am very dissatisfied with the gross misappropriation of funds and lack of true research which could have easily yielded better results over such a long period of time. It is equally reasonable to say I will not pay taxes for e-cigs and will oppose any and all attempts at such taxation. Instead of taxing them, they should simply allocate some funds to improve designs to make them even more effective and easy to use. Open source software operates on a similar principle and has been wildly successful.

Just remember it's Electoral votes ( 538 to be exact ) that count and these stinking politicians are who actually vote to see who gets elected into the office of the president ( This is Bizzar in this day and age that this is still the process ), and it needs a changing. It cracks me up that we even go to the voting polls to vote for the president, those votes dont mean squat. only these 538 electoral votes that make up the electoral college are the ones that count, so we have 538 major players on the take in my book, how much does it take to buy there vote ? stinking millions, these phoneys are all on the take in my opinion. Washington DC is a huge game these days of who comes up with the biggest sneakiest money making schemes & Scams to make the most money behind the scenes for the biggest corporations who are really in charge and dangle these politicians like puppets on a string.:glare:

The actual size of a billion dollars is irrelevant, & focusing on that is a wonderful scare tactic. The only thing that is relevant is spending vs. revenue, and even that does not have concrete "right & wrong" due to the intricacies of economics. Our money is conceptual; our economics are conceptual; everything is based from mathematical formulas that I or you could not begin to understand. That is a scary fact but it is a big world. I do not like this propaganda nonsense; minutes & hours have absolutely nothing to do with govt spending or financial relatives.

I imagine rebuilding a city would be quite expensive. It is ridiculous to say that each resident "gets" X dollars from that figure; the govt isn't out there divvying all of that up and cutting checks to random people. Levy's are massive structures that are ridiculously hard to repair: same with urban sewer systems & roadways, & large public facilities. That said, why we would seek to rebuild a city that was constructed below the waterline is beyond me, that was a dumb place to put 500,000 people.
