I am also a newbie....I have been lurking and learning for weeks. I found this website early in my search for PV equipment and quickly learned that the Blu I was going to buy was not what I needed! Thanks to the wonderful people here, I found The Vapor Room, located about an hour away. They set me up with an eGo, 1000 mah batteries and Smoktech Mega Dual Coil Cartos.

I was a pack a day smoker for 40 years. I can't seem to completely give them up, I still have three or four a day. At least I'm going in the right direction! I will get there, maybe not as quick as some...but faster than others, and for me, today...that's OK.

My question is this...How do you know the carto is done for? Will it burn out (bad taste) even though it is full....or will it just stop working? Is there any sign that the end is near?

Thanks everyone for all the support and info.

Welcome to ECF and congrats on getting your kit and getting started vaping. Don't worry about those few cigs you still smoke every day. Just think of all the ones you DIDN'T smoke. If you're like most of us, you'll eventually lose your taste/desire for cigs sooner or later. For some people, it happens instantly. For others, it takes a while. Don't sweat it. Just enjoy the ride.

I'm not that experienced (only been vaping a little over a month), but in my limited experience there are 3 ways to know a carto is done for:

1. It just won't fire any more. This means the atomizer part of it has burned out. Throw it away.
2. It develops an acrid, burned taste. This means you've let it run dry of juice and the filler material is burned. It is ruined and can never be brought back. Throw it away.
3. The taste/flavor of the juice changes or lessens. (I've had a couple develop a strange almost metallic flavor.) You can probably clean these and re-use them. There are several youtube videos on how to do it. Mainly it involves boiling them in a pan of water, rinsing them and boiling them again until all the funk is gone. Then you allow them to dry and they are ok to use again. I've done this a couple of times with varying degrees of success. Ultimately, just remember that cartos are considered disposable.
