So did anyone besides me have that "If I don't quit smoking I'm gonna kill myself" (lol, but true) feeling that served as their reason to switch from analogs to e cigs?

I'm a pack a day smoker, who started researching e cigs a couple months before the holidays last year after being introduced to one by my friend, she bought hers at a 7-11 or something, not the highest quality, and she paid out of the nose, but still it worked. My initial thought was "why bother" then I read and quickly discovered it was no bother at all, but rather a life saver. Anyway I started checking out a bunch of sites, reading whatever information I could find (my Primary Care Doctor actually suggested it to me as well) and honestly I got really excited about the idea of cutting the analog umbilical cord.

For Christmas I told my friends and family not to get me any "what they think I need or want" gifts, but to instead log on to one of the e-cigs sites (I gave them a list of my favorites lol) and get me a gift certificates (not all offered them), or just buy one of those prepaid visa/mastercard type dealios that I could use online. I know it sounds ultra tacky to tell someone what to get or not to get you for Christmas, but when I told them the reason they were all MORE than happy to oblige lol. My plan was to make the switch as my New Years resolution, but the New Year came and I still had a bit more research and comparison shopping to do. I finally got it all narrowed down and did my shopping online last night ......I think I got carried away (or is there such a thing lol)
After reading everything and talking to several people I narrowed my selection down to the 808 and 520 models, so I purchased multiples of both ( i think I got 7 batteries in total), bunches of atomizers, carts, all the charging gadgets and gizmos and juices up the ying yang. I purchased enough stuff to last gawd knows how long. I got confirmation this morning from all four vendors that my items had shipped and I'm about jumping out of my skin waiting for it to get here.

As I was sitting there recklessly clicking on more and more items to ad to my shopping cart I started thinking about my mother who's getting up there in age. She's been a smoker my whole life, and it's probably time for her to give something else a try too, so bunches of the stuff that I ordered I did so with her in mind. I'm flying out to visit her next month and will be on a mission to convert her from analogs to vapor and know if i pitch it just right I can more than sell her on the idea. We'd seen them at a mall kiosk during the holidays, but she wasn't moved by the "plain Janeness" of the white cig with the big yellow filter; she's a fashion diva and no matter how functional/practical and item is, if it can't tie into her outfit or look good in use she's not having it. I bought a couple of the Vapor Kings in her favorite colors, and plan to decorate one of them for her....she won't be able to resist the blinged batteries lol.

Im rambling now....
Anyway I just want to say thanks to all of you guys here who have posted a world of useful information for us newbies, it really helps to ease the transition and answers so many questions that have helped me personally from making more than a few non practical buy decisions. Thank You.

I am another former analog smoker that is mainly switching to ecigs due to health concerns. In my opinion, electronic cigarettes taste better than the analogs, and of course they are much cheaper over time.

How long have you been using the ecig now? Are you still smoking analogs at all or have the craving for them?

as a girly girl who loves to accessorize may I make a suggestion? Get a pretty lanyard for your mother. I found that a pretty silver lanyard from here . I really loved being able to keep the battery close, and it did feel more an accessory with it.

Great post, would read again. Welcome to the forums!

Oh definitely with the health concerns. Between the time I spent sleeping only to wake up feeling tired and passing out again. Not being able to 'stay up' for the typical amount of hours other people were. Everything is different now, I actually feel awake, heck, alive when I get up now. Complete 360 for me.

*nods* It is different and the difference between vape and smoke threw me off a bit at first too. I found that with my first few hours vaping I wasn't craving the cigarette itself, but the thickness of the smoke. Then the longer I used the e-cig, well, what I had been smoking prior became the most awful things ever in both taste and smell. I was a 1/2 to 1 PPD smoker for 11 years. Of course, results always vary from person to person. Also, don't be discouraged if you don't convert right away, take your time, but I think with your level of excitement you're all good and remind me of myself and how I was in the beginning.

NOW if my packages would just get here already lol.

Also, welcome to the wonderful world of postal service stalking. Remember, it's not stalking, it's 'observing from a distance'.

MY STUFF IS HERE....MY STUFF IS HERE!
I'm choking to death on vapor .....I feel like I'm 16 again learning how to smoke.

I smoked my last analog cigarette yesterday afternoon and didnt want to buy more cause i knew my packages would be coming soon (I actually thought they would have been here yesterday)...my body is dying for nicotine right now. I'm sitting here staring at 60+ bottles of juice and dont know where to start sampling, with the exception of about 5 or 6 of them they all smell the same. I also got a box of RY4-11mg prefilled carts for v4l, I just tried one and not so sure what to make of it other than it's really strong, I got a super nic buzz. I'm concerned now because the juices I ordered are all 18mg; a few of the seasoned people in the forums here told me as a newbie it would probably be better to overshoot the nic level by a bit and then cut my juice if i needed to, rather than playing "mad scientist" and accidentally overdose myself on nic trying to increase it.....made sense to me, but I think the 18mg is going to be way too much for me. Any suggestions? (Particularly since I didn't buy anything to adjust the levels with.....doh!)

Welcome to the beautiful world of vaping!

It's all new and exciting right now, so enjoy it. Don't get too pressured to "get it all right", and don't worry if you have a couple cigarettes. That's about the only advice I can offer. I did the same thing, but I've slowed down a little, and am enjoying a more secure vaping experience.

You can cut it with vegetable glycerin. It can be purchased in the cake decorating section of a craft store, it's used in icing. VG will dull the throat hit, but will give you big ol clouds of vapor. You can also use DISTILLED water to cut either the juice, or the VG. Welcome to the wonderful world of vaping, and contests on quitting. You can do it!

I forgot, some people have said that they kinda felt a slight buzz when using their new equipment because they didn't clean out the atomizer, so you might want to try blowing out your atty, then putting in a few drops of some pg juice in it, and blowing that through it, then prime it with a few more drops, and try another flavor and see if that was it. If not then try cutting some juice in another bottle, and adjust that bottle as needed.

You can usually find a small bottle of VG (labeled "Wilton's glycerine") at a craft store (like Michaels) or walmart near where they keep fancy cake decorating stuff. Add some of that to your e-liquid to cut the nicotine mg's down -- you'll be cutting the flavor too, but maybe worth it for now.

On your next order, get some 0mg e-liquids in similar flavor to what you have and cut with that so that you don't cut the flavor of the rest of your juice. It doesn't have to be exactly the same flavor to work out, sometimes it's even nicer if it's not, but you'll just have to experiment with it.

Looks like you are going to start your journey into DIY a bit early, like it or not! LOL :) Really, it's not that scary once you get started: put a couple paper towels down, wear rubber gloves, clean up after.. no biggie.

OH yeah! I forgot too! Yes, blow out your atomizers for sure. Also, be sure you are taking slow, long airy drags into your mouth and then inhale into your lungs (if you like, you'll still get the nicotine without inhaling). You can't do a hard quick drag like on a cigarette, they don't work well like that.

:) Good luck!
