I am at a bit of a loss here. I don't have a torch, and I am wondering if I can use a butane lighter? I experimented with it, and it turned it all black and sooty. Not a desired outcome so I am wondering since my electric stove glows red hot if I can oxidize it on that using that heat? I would just get up run to Wal-Mart and go buy a torch but no supplies till tomorrow wife got the car and im home with the 3 month old. Any advice would be welcomed.

I personally do not oxidize my wicks at all. A lot of members will tell you its a MUST but I think its more of a preference. You do not NEED to oxidize your wick. If you don't have a torch you could try to "pulse oxidize" it. Do a search for "pulse oxidize" here on the ECF and you will find loads of info on how to do it properly. :vapor:

Best of luck.

I realize it's already past 'tomorrow' and you probably have a torch by now, but I'll post anyway.

I don't think you will have much luck with an electric stove.

I agree with Mitch. I don't oxidize SS at all. I do pass it through a torch just making it red once, but that's to burn off any manufacturing oil left on it. You could do the same with a butane lighter, just get the steel to turn red for an instant.

eHuman has a great blog here on how to set up the AGA-T, but it's the same for all Genisis attys. It's a really good tutorial for all aspects of setting these attys up.
