Paid or Supporting Member question

Good evening

I went to go throw some support at ECF and noticed you only accept PayPal payments via Paypal accounts.
Is there another way to support ECF other than Paypal accounts? Paypal payment without account perhaps?

Sorry badvox, but because it's an annual, recurring charge, you have to have that Paypal account so it's set up to recur every year.

I hope you can reconsider despite that requirement!

There's nothing to prevent you from using PayPal to set up the first payment and then cancelling the recurring payment afterwards. It won't cancel out your Supporting Member status if you do it that way.

I used Paypal for years as many have but over the summer my account was one of the ones compromised.

I consider myself lucky that all funds were returned. Still feeling pretty timid about returning.

Some people open separate bank accounts just for Paypal and they keep the balance very low for that very reason. One of my banks would give me a 'free' one, the other bank would charge $10 a month for a low balance 'service fee', so I recommend doing some research if you go that way.

I'm having the same issue. Due to past issues I don't do PayPal. Was all set to become a supporting member, but now it goes into the same category as my Weather Underground membership. Something I'd really, really like to do, but can't . Don't quite understand why, since I have other annual recurring charges that go through my cc.

ECF isn't a commercial operation that needs a merchant account (credit card processing facility). The cost of that would equal several Subscriptions so we don't do it.

Every time another alt Paypal system comes online that looks viable, we try it out. For example Moneybookers, which we implemented for a while. Unfortunately it turned out to generate more complaints than it was worth.

If we get a CC account then we'll have to start selling stuff. Maybe that will come around.

I do understand that. It's just frustrating when I want to become a supporting member. My past experience with PayPal was bad enough that I'm just not willing to deal with them again, ever, for anything.

Google Wallet lets you sign up for subscriptions. I have wallet.. I will not have paypal. and I really want to be a supporting member!

I, too, refuse to use PayPal because of past experiences. Do you take checks? I'd write a check every year if that's what it took. I can even set up my bank to automatically send you a check every year.
