+1 on standard coils being the standard. I've built all kinds of "you gotta try this!!!" coils. I enjoy the process. I like tinkering.....I really like tearing them out and putting a simple standard build back in. Of all the funky builds, I guess I like twisted .28 the best but it's not what it's all hyped to be. A simple coil works great. I have been building a lot of spaced coils again. I have some atty's that just perform better with a spaced coil....yesterdays standard coil.

The bottom line is to educate yourself as much as you can about Ohms Law, Battery Safety and get an ohm meter before doing anything else. It's way more fun when you know what you're doing and why you're doing it.

Everyone, you're getting off topic. The main topic was parallel coils vs twisted coils (performance).

No, they are not off topic. Any coil building without being able to check the ohms is asking for trouble. As ECF is about SAFETY that should be handled first and foremost.

I never test on a ohm meter and never plan on it. I usually always do the same build and no my battery has atleast 4amp continueous wiggle. Nothing i could possibly do to my usual build could change the resistance enough to discharge 4more amps continuously. Even if it was possible i still have my pulse that is alot longer then my 2-4 second hits.

I use 50/50 regulated/mech and use steam engine and my build has never been a .1 over or under what SE said it would be.

I am not questioning your abilities or skills, but having been a motorcycle enthusiast for the last 30+ years, and having spent a bit of time among other enthusiasts, I've known more than a few that found out, at significant expense, that they really DID need a torque wrench and a good mic set.

Yes I understand that and appreciate all of your advice (which was followed) but that was just a question, not the main topic.

Twisted coils present more surface area for vaping, generally producing more vapor. I've tried them, and it really wasn't my style, but some folks prefer them.

Parallel wrapped coils are much warmer, and tend to really drop resistance fast when running multiple coils. If a single strand coil is 1.0, a parallel wrapped coil is 0.5, and a dual parallel wrap would be around 0.25.

The vape shop near me loves to build (and recommends) dual parallels for customers, sending folks out the door with 0.2 or lower builds. They don't use a meter either. Sigh.

I tend to stay away from parallel wraps, except for the rare occasion of tinkering with a single coil build.

Twisted is another animal. I have a spool of 30g that I have little use for, so I twist 3 strands together, and it behaves along the lines of 26g-28g. More surface area, longer heat up times, and springy as all heck. Not my favorite build, but handy to have if I run out of my preferred wire.

I stick to standard (spaced) or micro (contact) coils depending on the liquid for the most part.
