Looking over the last couple of years, a number of pvs which are modified usb chargers have been introduced with diy instructions and also offered for sale. Nuck Fistpack is modified from a charger offered on deal extreme(aprox $20) and the Tekk mod is from a Tekkion charger(aprox $60).

Aceofvapes seems to have perfected the NF with a gorgeous looking fire button VaporLuxe Rev.2 - Black. They also offer a low price built in charger featuring a user replaceable 14500 battery called The HotBox.

Youtube reviewers GeekyGirlVaper and LordDavon have also given thumbs up to a new top feeder VVPV ( includes batts + charger ) - notcigs.com

IIRC, most issues with Li-ion batteries venting or exploding happen during the charge cycle. If you drop $100+ on an APV, you probably don't want it trashed due to a bad cell in one of your batteries destroying the delicate electronics therein. IMO, it's better to remove the batteries for the charge cycle than to keep them in the device when possible.

I predict the 18650 sized user replaceable battery will remain popular for a few more years. I'd like to see more devices with built in smart chargers. I like the mini usb charger which is now required for mobile phones in europe.

These suntek usb charger boxes seem handy, although they probably aren't built to last. I wonder if anything good can be built from them though they don't have the ergonomic grip of the nuck or the vaporluxe.
