I'm still trying to find my way, but thankfully today marks 13 days without cigarettes.

I started with carts, had juice everywhere, and couldn't figure out how to vape correctly with them.

Then I tried dripping and that was a total disaster.. burned lips, sputtering juice, unable to get anything to inhale, etc.

Then I went to cartomizers and everything got much better.. after ruining 5 of them in a few days. What finally worked was using a drip tip on them.

Then, all of a sudden, the tobacco-flavored juice I so loved (and had ordered 4 more 30 ml bottles of), has become the most repulsive smell/taste I've ever known. I've switched to fruit flavors and hopefully the tiny bit I have will last me until my order arrives on Friday.

So, now I have a 5v manual passthrough, in addition to my Riva 510. I thought the passthrough was going to be "it" for me, but now I'm finding out that it seems to be too hot, and it seems to burn up cartomizers, even when I've carefully kept them topped off. I'm using Boge 510 regulars.

Hopefully someone has suggestions or can point me to "Passthroughs for Dummies," or tell me to give up on it. I'm back on the Riva full time.

For the PT, try atomizers/cartos with higher resistance if yours are too hot.
Marked HV, or 3ohms and up.

Hmmm.......I use standard Boge on my PT all the time without trouble and mine is a 5v also. Ikenvape sells really great cartomizers for 4.2v and up. You might give them a try.

Thank you both!, I will try Ikenvape. Do you know what ohms the ones I have are? They just say "510D Black Regular." I somehow thought they were 3.0 - at the time I wanted low resistance because everyone was recommending them, but they were out of stock.

Also, should I expect a cartomizer to last as long in a PT as it does in a PV? I think I am getting the hang of them now, I'm on my 3rd day with the one I am using right now (in the Riva).

From what I'm seeing on various Boge threads, the regulars are around 3ohm, so they should be ok. It may be possible you got 1.8ohm to 2ohm LR ones in the wrong box. Got a meter?

At any rate...if they're too hot for you, see if you can't find something with more resistance to tone it down a bit for you. I'm thinking Boge also does a 3.4ohm one.

Running the cartos hot and disliking you tobacco flavors could be connected, or it could be your taste buds or both. I know that, for me, MLB is a good example of a juice I really like as long as I keep the vapor relatively cool, but if I get it too hot, it turns nasty in a heart beat. You might give them another try in your Riva and just hit the button for about three seconds on a five second draw. You'll still get decent vapor but it won't look like it as visibility goes down but flavor should go up. If your using you PT, just hit the button for a second or two. ymmv and all that. Vape on. :vapor:

Thanks for the link Credo, and I'm sure we have a meter, but I don't know how to test them, I can look it up. They work great on the Riva, so I'll try this higher type in the PT. Are lower resistance meant for smaller battery PVs?

JD1, thanks, you are right - it was when I used the tobacco liquid in the passthrough. Now I can't stand it at all, I get nauseous even from the smell of the bottle. It's going to be a long time before I attempt to try it again.

Hello and welcome
Lower ohms are less resistance, therefore offer more heat and are used for higher powered pvs such as a riva which is 750mah or the eGo types. What kind of passthrough do you have? I have eGo 650 passthroughs and never had a problem with them. I usually use 2.5 Boge cartos on them but now I am using the eGo -T atty and am loving it.

Yes, Lower Resistance coils allow more wattage (heat) from the coils at lower voltages.
LR atties are mainly meant for getting a high voltage effect with stock 3.7v batteries.

Using stuff below 2.8ohms at 5v could get awfully hot and probably won't last as long.

The difference between a PT and a 510 or ego-battery PT is the voltage to the atty or carto.
510, ego, ego-PT all operate at 3.2V and many straight thur PT it's 5V, makes a big difference.

If you're buring, heating too much, use your thumb to regulate it :)
Instead of pressing and holding the button for a drag, press a second, let go, press again,
pulse the button so the coil doesn't heat as much. At 5V it doesn't take as long to get to
normal coil operating tempature.

Thanks sas, I have this one: MadVapes 5 Volt 510 Manual USB Passthrough

It can only be used with a wall outlet. I'm going to look up the one you have, maybe I just need a better quality unit.

It's starting to make sense to me, thanks. I really should have tried to learn all this before buying stuff!

Thanks, I'm going to try it again with this in mind, because it's possible I was treating the manual button on the PT the same as I do on the Riva. I really would like to make it work for me because I spend so much time at a desk.

I think you'll find the sweet spot of your PT. It's probably better to have a little more voltage than you need than not have enough.

Some people love/want that extra heat, but it isn't for everyone!

Pros of the hot vaping: More vapor with shorter burns. Can increase TH. Can increase the nic levels consumed in a given time period (in search of the ultimate nico buzz?) Brings out or even changes some flavorings more.

Cons of the hot vaping: Some of us don't use a drip tip, and don't like a hot carto on our lips. Sometimes it makes sizzling and boiling noises. It will use more juice. Typical grade atomizers won't last as long. And again, it can change the flavor (matter of preference).

I hope so! I am going to give it another try as soon as my juice order arrives tomorrow. I'm rationing now to avoid the tobacco flavors.

If you do decide to try an eGo 650 passthrough, you have a lot of flexibility in that you can plug into any usb port and unplug it, take it with you and still use it...(Holds the same charge as a reg eGo 650)....I have heard tho, not to plug it in on laptops, cause they are not stong enuff, but I am at a tower computer all day, and it works for me. You can also find a car usb charger that plugs into the cars cigarette lighter for the ride to and from work. That way, never out of power....
just a thought.
