im not really sure about the atty burning hotter, i guess it depends on how many volts the usb is putting to the atty, and as for the wall adapter, ive been wondering that myself, i have a car charger with a usb plugin but my passthrough was recently chewed beyond recognition by my girlfriends puppy so i cant try that till i get a new one.

I use a 510 and the passthrough gives me a better vape and I'm sure it's from higher voltage. I tested it with my multimeter and it was higher. I bought another 5volt passthrough that is even better. Also The usb adapter you plug into the wall is safe. I leave my passthrough plugged into mine 24/7, only take it out if I leave to go somewhere.

Thanks, everyone, for the fast replies. I figure if I have one PT at my desk, one on my end of the sofa, and another in the car, I'm pretty much set for 90% of my vaping time.

I'm using the volcano l88b pt and my atty started smoking I actually have a thread going in the technical section. I don't want to jump to conclusions but it sounds like the volcano pt makes the atty's burn hotter.

I looked up that thread, techtony, thanks. I am getting that horrible flavor too. My best guess so far is that some juices just taste awful in this model.

Also, I read a thread about 510 atties and a burnt taste, and the suggestion was to remove the little threads inside the atty. They say Blu and Volcano atties don't have those threads, but....there were thread like things in the one atty of mine near the coil- the atty that tastes the worst. I managed to dig most of them out. For the rest -- I blew my atties out and soaked them in in PGA for about 1/2 hour, then rinsed them in a cup of almost boiling bottled water. After they were dry, I put each of them on the PT for a dry burn. Pressed the button for 5-7 seconds while blowing on the atty. Let cool a bit and repeat. Looking into the V of the atty - I watched the remaining threads burn away. To be on the safe side, I did the PGA soak and rinse and dry burn again. I primed all the atties with a few drops of VG and let them sit overnight. Today, they all taste good as new.

A problem with an L88b is that the carts are so small, you tend to vape them dry rather quickly. Dry atties give you that "burnt monkey ..." flavor.

(No - I have never really tasted burnt monkey .... I am just assuming it would taste like this. :p )

Most pts run at 5 volts. Some d510 pt's have a built in battery unit to reduce voltage. Charged batteries are usually around 3.7 volts so the pt is much hotter and can change taste and the atty/carto life span. Also if a pt shorts out they can damage your computer so they should only be used with a seperate usb power supply. Power supply output must be at least 1000 milliamps.

That's what's prevented me from using a passthrough. I have a practically brand new, fairly expensive laptop and the last thing I want to do is fry the motherboard, which I've heard can happen. I'm really new at this but are you saying that a separate USB hub will prevent damage to the computer?
