Just came back in after taking a break from work to remember those that we lost to that tragic act of terrorism to find this post... thank you so much for remembering and reminding everyone!
I was still in the military on that day and was stationed in Norfolk, VA... I can still remember the call I got from my Senior Chief... I had been working the graveyard shift and had only been home from work for a couple of hours. He said, "I know you're tired, Petty Officer, but I need you to come back in to work." I asked him what was wrong and he told me what had happened... I went straight back to the base and we pretty much sat around in a large group and watched the news and talked about what it could all mean... one of the officers would come in and give us periodic updates as they learned new information.... it was all very surreal...

This was a rough day for everyone. I was in HS. I walked in one of my classes (don't remember which one) and the tv was on so I looked at it and the second plane hit. I had family there. I got up and walked out of class and got my girlfriend at the time and went home. No pass to leave or anything. Just got up and left. Went home and my mother was sitting on the couch (not in work for some reason) watching tv. At the time I lived a few mile away from Wright Pat AFB. So the jets take off and go sonic and shake the hole city multiple time though out the rest of the day and night. We a under the table at first until we figured out it was the stealths and other planes taking off and going to mach a million right away. This is just the beginning also. I got many calls from family also during this time but, did not hear from my father or step mother (active duty).
2 weeks later my step mom is shipped out. She did not get back until the day before my graduation 1.5 years later.
I joined the military right after graduation (long story why) and got shipped out also.
I really did not get to see my step mother or father more than a few days in 7 years because of 9/11.
I sit here thinking how scary it was for all of us to include everyone in this country no matter how corrupt it is.

So I take this hit from my mini instead of a drink for remembrance of the lives lost and the families torn apart since then.

I remember hearing from grown ups, as a child, that they remember the day Pearl Harbor was attacked. I never understood how clear that memory could be for them.......until 9/11/2001.

That day is still vivid in my mind. Also, how eerily quiet the skies were for days (we lived nearish the Philadelphia Airport)

:nun: those poor people and their families :nun:

I don't think anyone who was alive and old enough to realize what was happening that day will ever forget the things they witnessed. Definitely a day that changed the whole world. 13 years later and it seems like things are ramping up again in the middle east. Makes me sad for all who have lost their loved ones to terrorism since that day.

Sent from Doomite Central!

I was in the Army at Fort Hood when it happened. I was in the barracks with my roommate watching CNN after physical training when the news broke. Being Infantry, my first thought was we were going to war. I spent the next three years doing just that. I never could understand how a single incident could stay in someones mind so vividly until that happened.

I am truly sorry for your loss, psyc63... and I, for one, will never, ever forget!

With all of this recent talk of ISIS plans for a repeat attack, I pray daily that our government will step up and do what needs to be done to prevent this sort of tragedy from ever happening again. No family should have to grieve over the loss of life to such a senseless act of violence, and no person should have to live in fear that such an act will be repeated.
