It's a lot more complicated than it seems. You see, PVs haven't been on the market for that long, and like early computers, they evolved quickly (and are still evolving). And while later models usually are an improvement, some of the older ones are not bad, either. All of them still have their fans.

And then there is the issue of clones; parts or models that seem to fit another sucessfull model, but they don't always fit that well. And the older a model, the more clones are out there, so buyer beware.

A penstyle is an 801 (or a clone, or a very similar model), and therefore quite old. They do have great taste, though, but far less throat hit and warmth.

Minis, now, that is a wide field, covering everything from 510s to 10$-"Like-a-cigarette"-crap. Plainly and simply, if it looks like a cigarette, and has the size of a cigarette, chances are excellent you won't be very happy with them, because they are too small to deliver anything - vapour, battery life, cart size.

I currently have TW's dse901. I'm loving it, just did the PTB mod today. I was looking into the Joye302 or possibly waiting on the babyj if it ever comes. My fiance has snagged my 901 from time to time and I'm considering getting something new just so we can each have our own at least.

I'm not sure what I should get should she decide she in fact does want one. I believe we both are mostly about flavor, so as far as minis go, I've heard that the 901 is the best, in which case goo because it is what I have. Though someone recently was saying I may have better luck with an 801 for flavor.

So far nobody has suggested any of the bigger PVs for flavor.

There are many differences between pen style and mini. The primary difference, as you suggested, is size. When the PV was first developed, the designed was targeting a pack of cigarettes (number of "mouthfuls") as his replacement goal. This dictated a certain battery life and liquid volume. The form factor was similar to a regular cigarette, but he couldn't achieve his target in the size of a regular cigarette, so instead he chose another familiar look (a pen) for his original design. When the popularity of the pv exploded, manufacturers discovered that new vapers were looking for a form factor more similar to a cigarette, so that they looked like they were smoking. Thus, the several varieties of mini were born. The pen style still stores more battery life and juice, but in appearance is different enough from a cigarette that it isn't as popular.
Most vapers start with a mini and then "graduate" to some other variation (ego, box mod, Juice Box, etc.) based on the discovery that looking like you are smoking is not as important as actually being able to vape for a longer period of time without changing batteries, cartridges, etc.
Flavor and volume are more directly related to atomizer design (resistance) and battery voltage (3.1, 3.7, 5, 6, 7.4, etc.) The higher the voltage, typically, the more volme of vapor production, however there tends to be a loss of flavor as the juice tends to be burnt, unless the atomizer you are using stays very wet and / or is designed for a higher voltage operation.

Cart size, battery life, vapor and taste were the reasons I've stuck with my penstyles. The penstyle atty on a Li-Ion battery mod can't be beat IMHO.

Models include DSE801 (Sailebao - high bridge) , RN4072 (First Union - low bridge), 302 (Joye & Boge - both low bridge ), BE112 (BestECigs - low bridge ), BW155A (Bauway think this is low bridge, haven't gotten it yet) and M201 (Smoore think this is high bridge, haven't ordered one yet).

I do use my 510... (best of the smaller e-cigs) but most of the day I'm using my 302 or 4072 attys.

Mini's have their place... in my drawer, untouched after the first day of unsatisfactory performance.

The M201 is a low and wiiiiide bridge. It is a terrific atomizer but be very careful with this one because it is the least compatible of all pen style attys. It worked extremely well with the JS V1 due to its center draw. However, I've had no luck with them on most any other mod since. And, to complicate it further, there are more than one model/style floating about.

I second the M201. Best atomiser bar none imo. I've heard of knock offs from different manufacturers but never heard much details about it. I've read that it is compatible with Janty Stick but don't take my word for it. If you're worried about imitations, check out the original manufacturer at:
