I think a lot of vapers have a sort of "revenge mentality" that winds up doing us far more harm than good in terms of trying to gain public acceptability and overcome the moral panic. When they smoked cigarettes, they were so resentful of being socially ostracized and shunted outside like lepers that, now that they vape instead, they seem hell-bent on doing it anywhere they want, any time they want, in close proximity to as many people as possible.

I don't think it's ANTZy of me to say no one needs to vape at a school play or sporting event. I mean seriously. But more and more, I see people vaping at times and places where it almost seems like they're trying to instigate a confrontation by being as obnoxious about it as possible. I wish these idiots would stop to think how badly they're rudeness reflects on all the rest of us and ......s our efforts to gain fair treatment for vaping and vapers.

I completely and whole-heartedly agree. Vaping, like most things, is a privilege. And for those that want to rub it in others face that they can, to some extent, vape wherever they want manage to make it difficult for the rest of us who vape in a means of cessation or hobby.

It's not necessarily the people that vape indoors, it's the ones who feel compelled to show that they feel the have the right to vape wherever they want. And when confronted by, let's say, the store owner or manager they feel obligated to argue their "right" to vape wherever they want.

Some do. Some don't. I won't. After all, it's "their house, their rules" and common courtesy should kick in somewhere.

Considering you so passionately object to vaping in public - what exactly do you consider 'fair treatment'?

Lolwut? I never said (or even implied) that I object to public vaping, and I certainly don't think that. My point is that I see some people going out of their way to be rude and obnoxious about it, and seemingly exercising no discretion or common sense about when and where they do it, and that this doesn't benefit any of us. Just because there's no law against something doesn't mean it's a good idea to do it 100% of the time no matter where you are or whom you're with.

who is to say those people just aren't rude at all times. I don't think it's only when they choose when and where to vape

I don't see what difference this makes. If they go out of their way to be obnoxious about when and where they vape, in the minds of the people to whom they're being rude, that's a reflection on vapers in general. Is it fair? Of course not. But it is reality, and when cities and states pass draconian restrictions on where and when you're allowed to vape, the obnoxious in-your-face vapers are the ones we have to thank for it.

I think it is the younger crowd, who are most likely dual use, who have the entitlement mentality. Perhaps they are just posers who think they are showing off by vaping...

"It's my right, I'll vape where I want..."

Welp, dats cause day ain't got no home fetchins! (Sorry. Redneckness kicked in.) :D

I don't see that happening here in Canada. You're painting Californians in a really crude picture

Then again, it's been a while since I've been there ...

I'm not painting anyone anything. I'm simply describing what I've been witnessing.

As far as the obnoxious ones being younger, this would be a reasonable presumption, but much to my surprise, I'm seeing that the worst offenders are people around my own age (40ish). That's what led me to believe there was some type of revenge/retribution mentality at play, like they're thinking "You made me go outside to smoke for all those years, now I'm gonna sit here and blow vapor in your face just because I can."

I mean seriously, how badly do you need to vape that you have to do it in an elementary school auditorium in the middle of your kid's spelling bee? That's just obnoxious, narcissistic, and lame.

Ah, well, it's the same with everything, n'est-ce pas? For everything I am involved with, care about or participate in, there are some fellow participants who make it look bad with their gormlessness (or worse, sometimes much worse), and I'm like, "gee, I really wish you weren't on my side!" But, hey, human social systems -- what're you gonna do?

I just keep on keeping on doing what I do, in the nice, reasonable, considerate way I normally do it. I'm not responsible for every angry young ignoramus who wants to grab attention by kicking sand in everyone's face.

I vaped in a movie theater once and immediately felt like that was pushing it. I see what your saying, but we also have rights to vape in certain places. Maybe not your son or daughters school play, but at a restaurant I really don't see the issue. i personally don't care about other people's ignorance to what vaping is and how it is not smoking.

let's set aside the self-entitlement feels and just look at the other part of it; where is it ok to vape indoors?

i figure that for most folks who are just using ego style batteries with a carto or protank on it, they're probably able to get away with it in more places than someone who is cloud chasing. it really just comes down to having good manners. on a humorous note, if you can crop-dust and get away with it (i.e. nobody will smell it), you can probably have a vape and not be bothersome.
