No proof on one being safer than the other.

PG is a better flavor carrier, thinner, lower viscosity, and adds to the throat hit of nicotine.

VG is thicker, provides denser clouds, has a creamy and sweeter taste, and can give you wicking issues with several things.

PEG, polyethylene glycol, is really popular in Europe, but it hasn't gain much traction in US. Based by forum information, it offer some of the best aspects from both VG and PG. I'd like to try it... no time for diy.

I use a lot of ratios, but I tend to keep my PG at 50%or less.. only reason I use higher PG mixes is because some vendors I use mix that way. I don't believe in asking for anything different, since liquids are tailored to those ratios. I don't get anything from vendors that offer multiple mixes, outside of darkest day vapors.

There is no significant study that suggests one is safer than the other. So I cant really comment much on that.

There are a few major differences between the juices:
1. PG is flavorless while VG is slightly sweet. Thus the flavors added to juices present better with PG.
2. PG is very thin and runny, while VG is very thick. As a result VG produces much more vapor than PG does. Another result is that tanks do not tend to perform well with either in its pure form, PG tends to flood tanks while VG produces dry hits due to slow wicking.
3. PG brings a natural throat hit with it, while VG is very smooth. It should be noted that most throat hit comes from nicotine level however.

I tend to like 70/30 PG/VG in my clearos, and 70/30 VG/PG in my drippers.

Juice Components
Flavoring usually about 3- 15%- could be higher or lower depending on the flavor used.
PG enhances flavor, TH and lung hit- water like - many of us believe PG to be a throat irritant.
VG= vapor and can mute flavor- thick
Nicotine- TH, lung hit and our need for nicotine. The MOST important ingredient in regards to TH and lung hit.
Standards in the industry are 80/ 20 or 70/ 30 PG/ VG. Many are moving towards a 50/ 50 ratio as it provides a smoother vape. Some also have a sensitivity to PG. High VG can sometimes cause wicking issues because of it's thick viscosity- easily remedied by adding a tiny amount of distilled water. High PG juices can sometimes cause flooding. I've vaped 40/ 60 to 80/ 20 PG/ VG without issue.
In regards to studies there's limited info available. I found 2 separate studies- one said VG was better to vape and the other stated PG was better to vape  I believe the one positive of regulation will be more studies being done. One major company has already announced plans for an in depth study.
