howx it going in new to the rta/ rebuildables I bought the pharaoh rta and I bought a squid doode frame staple coil. The coil reads .144 on my alien and it reads that it's using 20.xx amps at 55 watts and goes higher as I turn up the watts 70 watts is 21.xx amps. I've tried getting it to work in a lower wattage but it doesn't seem to heat up. Is the the coil not heating up in lower wattage normal? And is the amps at a higher watt ok? I have the alien mod and really want to get this rta working but the brick and mortar shop can't help me because none of them rebuild

While you are waiting on some answers you might want to check out the thread below. .14 ohms is probably much lower than you need to be. What brand and model batteries are you using? You need to have a couple of 20A or higher batteries for that mod to do low sub ohm vaping. If it's not heating the coil I'd bet that the batteries you are using aren't up to the task.

It takes batteries with a high current rating to fire that coil. Wire gauge has a lot to do with a coil's current requirements and the battery's ability to heat it. Your batteries may not be up to the task. If that's so, I'd advise you to stop trying until you reveal which batteries you have. Some are rated far lower than the battery wrap information claims.

Not everyone is going nearly as low in resistance as the coil you described. Some are finding a .5 ohm coil to be just fine in that tank. I'd lose that coil and try something higher in resistance.

Samsung 25R, LG HE4 or HG2, or Sony VTC4 or VTC5 would be good choices for that mod. They are all 20A or better batteries.

I have the vrk battery's

Those should be fine according to published tests, IF they are the 20A VRK batteries. VRK also makes lower amperage 18650's.

VRK 20A 3000mAh 18650 Bench Test Results...accurately rated, looks like HG2

The Smok Alien lists a minimum spec resistance of .1 ohm in power mode and .06 in TC mode. .144 is pretty close to the minimum. Published resistance for a coil out o the box may vary. Are you getting a low resistance message on your alien? Does it show .144 on the display? Have you checked it with an ohmmeter?

Maybe someone who uses the Alien will drop in and address your issue.

I just put it back on my alien and it read .174 ohms and my battery says it's 3000mah 30a max continuos discharge :20a

Can you get a good vape at a higher wattage such as the 70W you posted? If yes, there's no problem. The amps on the display refer to what the board/mod is supplying to the tank/coil, not the battery draw. Honestly, I wish they left it off the screen as it confuses folks way more than helps.

Two decent 20A batteries are more than enough for 70W. Even with a conservative calculation from Watt's law (what you use with regulated mods, unlike Ohms law for unregulated mechs) you're fine to 120-140W without an issue. Any higher though, and I personally would use 30A rated batteries.
