Hey, I received a pack of 5 GV Phoenix clearos (smaller size in 2.4-2.6ohm) and have some questions about them. My biggest question is, is there a break in period for these clearos?

I'm vaping Virgin Vapor Original Sin (Apple, in 50/50 18mg) and the flavor in an atty is downright juicy. The first Phoenix I tried, it gave me good flavor for 2 pulls, then popped the coil at 4.0volts on the Lavatube.

The second clearo I filled, tastes like apple flavored dog food. The apple is very, very faint, but the dog food taste is overwhelming. It's putting out a nice vapor, and I've run it from 3.7, to 4.0, 4.2, 4.5, and 5.0 volts, with the dog food flavor coming out more, and more as the volts went higher up.

I'm afraid to empty the juice and put it into a 3rd one, at least until I hear back from someone. I'm confused about whether there is a break in period because the first one tasted fairly good, while the second is almost unvapeable to me.

Harleydiva: One time, when I was a kid... lol. My brother made me. :( I had a microwaved dog biscuit one time, too. That one didn't make my mom very happy, the smell lingered for weeks! :D

NC_FOG: I didn't disassemble them and wash them first. ;/ I'd read about so many working great "fresh out of the pack" that I'd assumed it wasn't necessary. I'll empty the juice and try cleaning this one here in a bit. Edit: The website says they come with zero primer, too.

larktdl: I had to go pick up a couch for my girlfriend so I'd let it sit for about an hour before I started vaping on it. There's bubbles coming up the side when I'm vaping it, and it doesn't taste burnt at all. Just has a pungent taste to it that isn't very pleasant. As for other juices, I got rid of all my high PG stuff. Anything over 50/50 does weird things to me.

Thanks for the quick replies ya'll. The vapor is great on these things, now I just gotta figure out where the flavor went to.

I believe the latest ones from Gotvapes come dry. The CE3's(same as Phoenix)that I get are hit and miss, so I just made a habit of cleaning them before use. I bought several boxes of them after trying them out. I'm still rotating the first 2 for over 2 weeks now. I clean and dry burn them every 5 or 6 refills when the flavor starts to mute or taste odd.

I just opened the other 3 from the pack, gonna disassemble them all and give 'em a good soaking. I don't know how much I believe the no primer thing, because 1 of the 3 has condensation bubbles inside of it. Hopefully that is the problem. My fruity juices just don't do well inside of a carto tank, so I am hoping these CE3s will bring out their flavor and keep me from having to drip when I want to taste something other than tobacco juices.

Edit: Ok, now I definitely don't believe they came with "no primer". Out of the 4 I've got broken apart right now, 2 of them have browned wicks and black coils, while the 1 that I've already used is a white wick and silver coil, and the 4th one you can tell has never been touched. On with the cleaning.

You didn't mention whether you have the bottom coil, or the top coil; but IMO, you're voltage is a little high for the 2.4-2.6 ohms. For me, the bottom coil Phoenix don't like higher voltages. I vape the 2.6-2.8 at about 4.0 Volts.

Sorry about that, they're the bottom coil. I was adjusting the voltages to figure out if it may have been too low and just not bringing out the flavor. I vape my 2.0 Boges anywhere from 4.0 to 4.5, depending whether it's a tobacco juice or a fruity juice. Is there something in the design of these that I should be aware of, and keep the voltage down because of? I'd assumed that a 2.4-2.6 ohm could handle a higher voltage, so I can get the same watts I normally vape at. Is that not right?

Moment of truth. They're all 4 cleaned. 1 getting filled with Original Sin, 1 getting filled with Juicy Watermelon. Hopefully the cleaning worked.

I'm down to 4mls of my Original Sin, and just dumped the contents of the first "dog food" carto down the sink, so it's gonna be pretty painful if this doesn't work out. :(

Edit: Alright, I got rid of the dog food flavor. I'm just going to assume that it had the same brown juice in it that the one I opened fresh had on it, as well. I'll be checking them all in the future.

The Juicy Watermelon tastes just like it does on an atty, and the Original Sin has finally started coming out. It's not nearly as "juicy" as it is on an atty, but it is definitely livable. I'll be buying more of these in the future, if they last long enough to make it financially worthwhile. :D Thank you guys for the help!

Synnuh, I think top coils can handle higher voltage if you want to try those... I could never get the bottom coils to get to 3.7, let alone 4 V without dry hits.

And, yeah, the dog food taste is from the Chinese tobacco they used to prime it with. Yowyuck. As we had discussed at one point in this forum, tastes must really be different in different cultures. :)

And.... eh.... is that brother of yours still living, or did you take your revenge? :D

lol, we spent our days, until he left home, going back and forth. He thinks he always got the upper hand.

I don't care much for the top coils because of the way they wick. I burned up a bunch of CE2 top coils. The taste seems to get muted on these bottom coils as I go higher up in voltage so I'll keep them between 3.7 to 4.0.

Glad to read that these are working out for you now, they are a decent product. If you are interested in how to improve the performance of the Phoenix check out

I'll take a look at that video. Thanks for the link. :D
