Trying to find a good liquid

I should probably try a menthol flavor because I smoked menthol cigarettes.

I did as well - Parliaments and Marlboros. I found that Halo's Menthol Ice completely satisfied that jones.
That said, I see you mentioned wanting something 'herbal' - Halo's Smooth 8 tastes exactly like Earl Grey Tea to me... that dry, smoky black tea, bergamot, and a very subtle floral presence in the background.

So many companies and flavors to try though...

I just quit 3 weeks ago and smoked pad newports for 18 years. I too am not a big fan of fruity flavors. I found that peppermint works best for me. Check out halo kringles curse and mystic, also vaporphoxxes peppermint Janet is my all day vape. The mint tingles your mouth n throat similar to a menthol smoke. Give it a try.

I ordered a tobacco sampler pack from Halo and found most of the juices to be great vapes. My favorite was Torque56. It's a good deal for $24.95. You get six 6ml bottles for a total of 36ml of juice. It comes in a round tin similar to one that cookies or candy is packed. There's a dense foam rubber insert with holes punched for the bottles. The tin itself is great for storing hardware or tanks that fit the holes in the insert.

I used to smoke newports, and then switched to Marlboro menthols. I just really want to quit smoking. It's gross. I've cut down tremendously since I started vaping. Two or three a day. I want to cut them out completely soon. I'm hoping the new flavors I ordered will help give me the motivation. Speaking of flavors here's what I ordered.

There was a poll on the ECF that concluded in Dec. 2012. Based on that and other comments here I tried Ahlusion juices and will be ordering from Heather's Heavenly Vapes soon. (Basing user reviews and my own taste preference) I ordered 3 flavors from Ahlusion and got 1 extra as a free sample. I tried the Maple House Blend 1st, it is very good after steeping about a week but was a little sweeter than I thought it would be. Very good though. Next I tried the Cool River Tree Blend with a "breeze" of menthol, holy moly this stuff is delicious. I went back and ordered a 60ml bottle a week later. I haven't tried the other two flavors yet and may not be able to stop vaping this one until it is gone. I shared it with my daughter (she is 33) and she asked me to please fill a 10ml bottle for her. It was really hard to be that generous but she is my daughter, I shared. I have only ordered from 3 vendors so far, have liked something from each and not liked something from 2 just because of my own preference NOT because the vendor had bad flavors. I have been vaping (seriously) since June 2012 so am still fairly new but do feel I am getting the hang of it and certainly figuring out my taste preferences. You will too. I like a mild menthol or mint flavor best so far but, depending on mood and what I am doing (drinking coffee, alcohol, after eating or just during the day) I seem to have a different desire for flavor. Who knew vaping would be so much better and have so many more choices than smoking?!

If you are interested in herbal flavors, you may want to check out flavors that have clove, anise/licorice, tea, and absinthe elements. Two such juices that I can think of off the top of my head would be Grandpa's Cough Medicine from EPipeMods and Black Forest (tobacco) from Mountain Oak Vapors.

I think your idea of making your own tinctures is great. Just be sure to research the individual ingredients and the possible effects of inhalation.

AiV is definitely my main supply source for the moment, their product and customer service trumps anything I've experienced in the last several months. Going through my Cheshire Catnip and Rayvn right now. The Cheshire Catnip is my first herbal juice, but it's really pretty good. Definitely unique, as are all of the other AiV juices.

The White Rabbit is AMAZING! If you're ever in the market for a very, very strong menthol you should check out Arctic Wolf from VaporGod. It's super cheap and super strong on the ice-- I have to take small inhales. haha At $3.00 for 5ml it's probably worth at least checking out. I still stand by my earlier Cheshire Catnip recommendation, though.

The juices I've had from them have been hit or miss, Arctic Wolf being the stand out, BUT they do have an option for free 5ml bottles when you buy select 5-packs of cartomizers, hence why I keep ordering from them. Their Tiramisu is actually pretty decent. Not world shattering good, but it's not bad by any means. I tried one of their tobaccos and wasn't impressed at all, as well as a cherry blossom that, while being spot on in the taste, just wasn't for me. It actually felt like I was rolling cherry blossom leaves around in my mouth. Great for novelty, but not something I would ever go out of my way to vape. I have a few more boxes of cartomizers with different flavors coming in next week, though.
