I was having some trouble getting my Phoenix with a Silica wick to properly feed Boba's Bounty short of actually filling the base up with liquid, which of course presented leaking problems. I thought it might be my wick configuration so I tried several variations; short, long, high atomizer, low atomizer. In the end I decided to convert to cotton, but was worried it would easily burn (since this is a dripping atomizer). I finally came up with a fix this morning.
Wind a standard Silica wick with the excess looped down and resting on the bottom of the base. Then screw the atomizer down tight and low as seen in the picture. Take a small balled up piece of cotton (I used CVS USP Rolled Cotton) and stick it into the base with tweezers. The cotton should be a few MM under the coil when dry. (It will expand when wet and sit just under coil, feeding it juice.)
Now I'm getting consistent hits, with no hot spots, using a 100% VG liquid! This setup seems to hold quite a bit of liquid, with zero leaking or weeping.
Next time, I think I'll try stretching some cotton out and weaving a wick out of that, then coiling it so it's 100% cotton. With this method it should be able to consistently hold enough to juice to not worry about burning.
