I'm not sure if this is where I should post this question. Its on a mechanical mod. I was a 20+ yr smoker. And have been vaping for a few months and have not picked up a analog cig. vaping has and is changing my life. I'm vaping using a ego ctwist with a 3ml carto regular tank. I'm thinking about stepping up my vape game. I think rebuildable attys and provari r super cool and super expensive. Two things 1. I can't afford them and more important then that Physically my hands and fingers won't allow me to rebuild a atty. fine motor skills and me don't get along lol. I have real bad arthritis. Sometimes it hard for me to fill my tank or hit me botton on my twist. Anyways here's my question. I'm thinking about going with a mechanical mod. more specific a smoktek telescope v2 wth a karger protank. The mechanical mod botton is the way to go push it down against my hand and vape away. The protank from my research seens to b a good over tank and I can replace the atty or the bottom part with a new one I don't have to rebuild it. Also the protank comes in low 1.8 omh witch I heard will work will with a mechanical mod. Dose anyone out there have this set up. Or can anyone give me any advice on this setup. The price point is also something I'm looking at. Also what dose a kick do? I had a buddy tell me to get a kick. But he could tell me what it is. I know it has something to with watts and should only b used in a mechanical mod when ur using high omh attys or cartons is thaf right? Anyway any and constructive advice would b greatly appreciated. . Thank u so much.

ok I am not using a mechanical mod. I bought myself a vamo ($40-60 depending on sales). Not hard to use and easy to hold on to. I have bad hands days myself:)

What I can speak to is the protank. I love mine. Easy to fill and one tank lasts me about a day and a half or so. Also it is glass which means I never have to worry about what juice I put in it cracking it. The heads are inexpensive and easy to change.

Some people don't care for the airy draw. There is a little adapter you can get for a few dollars that regulates the airflow and tightens it up.

The protank is a bottom coil so it is a cooler vape and you don't have to tip the decice to get juice to the wicks like you do with a top coil.

That said many people LIKE the warmer vape of a top coil and also seem to favor the Vision Vivi nova. Much like the protank it has heads that can be purchased and just screw out. If you go Vivi nova you might want to pick up a metal tube for it so that you have something to use with the tank cracker juices (citrus and strong spices mostly).

Rooster, I love my Kanger ProTank, but I had to remove the top wick from the head of the tank to get the flavor from the tank that I was after. This is relatively easy to do, but it requires working with super small stuff and might give you a heck of a problem. One thing that you might want to consider is something like the Vamo V2 as a good mod for you. It has probably more bells and whistles than you are interested in, but it also has a nice big button that is kinda easy to press and the size of the mod is bigger all around, so that it fits the hands a bit better. Conversely, the weight of the mod is considerably more than an eGo style of battery, so that might be a problem depending on how your hands hurt. I've found the ProTank on my eGo batteries tend to make the unit somewhat top heavy, not a very balanced combo, though I do enjoy the vaping experience from the ProTank very much. I hope you find a good combination for yourself that fits your budget and delivers the vaping experience that you're after. Good luck!

After reading for a while, its seems like there is so many different variation of ecigs. Getting more and more confused where to start out as a newbie.

Mikky, I really can understand your confusion and it can sometimes be a daunting task to find someplace to start. You will get as many recommendations as there are folks making them. So let me give you one opinion on a good starting place. You might want to start a thread yourself though so others can chime in without us completely highjacking the OP's thread here. ;) That said, I can hardly say you'd go wrong starting with a simple eGo-style battery or two, a charger for the batteries, and a drip atomizer and drip tip. That is a really good, basic way to start. Depending on how much vaping you do, you may want to consider the milliamp hours of the battery. You will see most of these batteries around 650 mah all the way to about 1100 mah for the eGo style batteries. You might get as much as an hour worth of vaping out of every 100mah of battery, though I am a heavy vaper, so I generally get about 5 hours of battery life out of a 1000mah battery. Some people can go a few days on the same battery. With this type of basic setup, you can add a cartomizer later if you get tired of dripping (which you will) or even some type of tank system. There are tons of options out there, but starting with that type of battery and an atomizer gets you started. If you think you'd get a little frustrated with having to drip a few drops into your atomizer after five or six good puffs, then get yourself a cartomizer and put your drip tip on it and see how that works for you. You can then start trying different tank setups as your budget allows and in a short while, you'll find a combination that tends to keep you satisfied for a while. Good luck to you. :)

I got my Vamo a couple days ago. Pretty heafty. There are also two very small button to adjust and display your settings. Those could be a problem for your hands. Good price though, $45 including shipping

Yeah that's kinda why I was thinking mechanical mod is the way to go theres no botton but the fire botton.

a vamo has a pretty big button, i'll let you decide whether or not it will suit your needs, as well as a mechanical.

your buddy gave you good advice, on mechanical mods, voltage is not regulated so as the battery drains, your vape will also get weaker. the kick allows a mechanical to have variable wattage, do you can set it to your desired watt, if you need the mechanical mod, the kick will help you out. some good cheap mechanicals are the sigelei #8 and #13a (NOT 13b) (side buttons) i think the natural is pretty cheap also...

I think somehow the point got lost. His hands have severe arthritis and cannot push buttons so he is looking at the Smoktech Telescope and a Protank. The kick was an after thought based on a recommendation from a friend.

Rooster47, I too have bad arthritis and ironically do use a Smoktech Telescope with a Kanger Protank (as seen in my Avatar ... lol). Yes, I believe this is a perfect set-up for you. The mod itself is very light and under the weight of the Protank will not fire if left unlocked. The collar lock may be the only thing that could give you trouble only because it sticks a little when fully unlocked. I do recommend going with the stainless as I have had a chrome v2 and it felt cheap and wobbly, mine is a stainless v1. The v3 is completely rebuildable making it easier to clean but almost all I found are chrome. Here is one in stainless ..

SMOKtech TELESCOPE Adjustable Mechanical Battery Mod - STAINLESS [gv-SMOKtechTELESCOPE-STNLS] - $54.95 : GotVapes.com, E-cigarette Supplies - Atomizers Cartomizers Mods Juice and more

Again, it doesn't matter where you buy it just be sure it's stainless. The only other mod I would recommend for use by pushing into your palm is the TEC by UD. On the down side the mod is very heavy, but on the good side is the bottom switch is like air, but also on the down side and why I sold mine is because it is so heavy it must be locked EVERY time you set it down on end, but if that doesn't bother you Vaportek USA has them at the unbelievable price of $27. It will run you upwards of $60 anywhere else!

Now, as far as the protank. It is a bit slippery in hand, especially if you spill a little juice, but I like it a lot, although it's quite airy. What I like as far as having our condition is when changing the coil, though as a whole the pieces are a bit small, the air stem is fairly long and has ridges making it easy to grip, and yes, the 1.8 ohms do plenty well.

As kick will allow you to up the wattage but what no one is addressing, again based on bad arthritis, is the dexterity needed to make adjustments to it. I personally run the 1.8 coils and get copious amount of vapor! What I might suggest if you want more power, though at your own risk :danger: , is 5v batteries and a holocron Labs short stop fuse, or vapesafe fuse. I may go this route next since all I own are mechanicals but hate building coils (although you can easily find premade).

You can find both the batteries and vapesafe :2c: fuse at iVape, or the holocron at electronicstix. I know the vapesafe ($4) is 1-time use but i believe the holocron ($15) is reusable.

Hope this helps and keep those hands warm!

PS: Please report back to this thread or shoot me a PM if you do go either of these routes, I would love to hear how everything works out for you!
