I am in touch with a Pila distributor and sent the following photos of my AC/DC adapter. I did not drop or place anything on top of the plug part and I just noticed this hole and crack today. I only charge when I'm present and I never leave the charger on overnight. I use the charger at least every other day charging AW Li-ion protection batteries and AW IMR both are 18650 batteries only. I purchased the Pila after reading on ECF that other members use the Pila charger to charge non-Pila batteries because Pila is considered one of the safest chargers for 3.7v.

Has anyone ever experienced this with your Pila using non-Pila batteries?

that isn't melted or damage from heat, it's damage from impact. someone dropped it or stepped on it, or otherwise caused great physical pressure to be applied. if it had been melted, it most likely wouldn't be cracked, and there would be evidence of melting like dripping plastic or discoloration.

Looks like someone stepped on it. I dont think there is anything internally that can cause a crack like that. The Pila charger is awesome . Iv been using them for years and would never buy any other charger. It also fully terminates unlike some chargers so you dont have to constantly worry about when its finished charging . iv never used Pila cells, i use pretty much AW IMRs all the time with the occasional tF Flames.

How do you determine a "blown capacitor" at the spot ? I can see the edge of the circuit board.

Must be a poltergeist because I have no memory of dropping or crushing. There is no one here but moi. The reason why I stated melted is because it's very smooth around where the hole is located, not jagged. It definitely looks melted to me on the hole opening (hard to photograph), because the opening is not jagged in that area.

Unless there is a blown capacitor at that spot on the circuit board, it is impact damage,

or a poltergeist.

What's the fuzzy looking stuff just inside the hole?

and did you find the missing piece?

Didn't hear a 'pop'?

No fuzzy stuff inside may be camera blur. The white is the edge of the circuit card. Did not hear a pop but I may have been outside the room when this happened. Never found the missing hole piece but if that much pressure caused the hole, that piece could be under something in the room and I don't see it. Mystery continues until I hear back from Pila

If its melting i would say maybe from the outside . To melt it like that the circuit board inside it would be black and smell like a electrical fire. From the pics the PCB looks unharmed in the slightest.

I agree...... no smell or black on CB just the hole with smooth melted like edges. Sent pics to Pila and hoping they will want the adapter to inspect further. The cracks on the casing appear they were caused by the hole blowing out. Even dropping it directly on that corner on my cushioned vinyl floor should not cause this type of hole and cracks on each side. Unexplained stuff is so challenging

Doesn't look the least bit melted to me either. When plastic melts from the inside, it deforms badly, gets wavy and bulks out, and if it melted enough to cause a hole it wouldn't have a single sharp / straight edge like that and no cracks.

I think you may have stepped on it without realizing at some point.

I agree..... but I would have remembered stepping on it which I did not. Plus, I'm always in socks or slippers in the house. My floor is cushioned vinyl so dropping should not cause this thickness of plastic to pop a hole causing the cracks on both sides of the enclosure. Definitely did not place anything heavy on top and just me in house at all times.

Maybe someone broke into your house and stepped on it? Do you drink often? Its definitly a hard impact and i cant think of anything whatsoever electrical component wise that can explode with that much force. Capacitors would not cause that. I honestly dont think something went wrong with it internally.

Does it work?

LOL.... I don't drink and if someone broke into my home they only smashed my ac/dc adapter. I wrapped it tightly with electrical tape and it appears to be working. Feels warm (not hot) to the touch after one hour of charging.
