I saw a pipette pump on onestopdiyshop and was curious if anyone has used them? The pipettes are kind of a pain to use, so I'm considering getting the pump but want to hear from some others who have used one first. Thanks!!

Yep....with every batch I mix. It's the only way I can get accurate recipes...well worth the money

I have the 1 and 2 ml size. I use them when making small sample batches. They work great for everything except the vg. That stuff is just too thick for the small size pipette that I use.

VG draws up the 10ml fine and I am not adding water. I bought a 3-inch 14 gauge needle expecting to use it for VG then never ended up using anything besides my 10ml pipette.

I just received my first order including a 10ml pump and an assortment (probably too many) pipettes. The first thing I noticed is how long they are. Any suggestions for storing them safely to prevent any breakage? Any cleaning tips?

Thanks much. :)

Just got mine today as well! I have them in an unused drawer right now...but I would like to hear some cleaning tips also!!

Syringes and graduated cylinders work best for me. I don't trust counting drops. 1 trip to a feed store and you can get 5 different sizes of syringes.

I clean everything in the PGA (Everclear) I use in the VG mixes.

Oh, and a tip for working with VG: Throw it in the microwave. Super easy then as it gets thinner then PG once it is nuked.

I like using syringes for more precise measurements on everything but I do also use some 3ml & 10ml pipettes, I run very hot water through them when finished and have a glass that I keep a lid on full of PGA, after I give my syringes and pipettes that hot water rinse I draw some PGA up into them a couple of times then give one more very hot water rinse, put them open end down and let them dry, Done

I just got the pipette pump, and 1 & 2 ml pipettes to go with it. All I can say is...

WOW!

I had been using 1ml syringes for precise measurements, but for accuracy that doesn't even come close to the pipette pump + 1 ml pipette! The pipettes are quite long, about a foot, and marked off in 1/100th of a ml. Stringing 1 ml of liquid over that distance really improves accuracy a lot, and the pump makes it really easy to get exactly the amount I need. Also, they're much easier to clean than a syringe (no plunger!). I also problems with the syringe markings coming off -- vg tends to dissolve the ink. I don't think the pipettes will have this problem.

I can't recommend this enough, particularly if you make small batches of juice and need to measure tiny quantities of flavoring.

Goodbye, syringes!
