Hello Everyone and welcome to Pizza Dave’s Vape reviews. Today I have another 2-4-1 special for ya’ll. Just so happens I received a bare mod and a tank the same day, and they were so incredibly matchy matchy that I paired them up for a slick little setup. First off, we have the Tesla Poker, dual 18650, 218w mod. Secondly, I received the Raptor tank by Ehpro. I did a little introduction to the Raptor a few weeks back, so now it is time to get my thoughts on these. The poker has been out for some time, and was sent by a new vendor, buyecigkits.com. I was super skeptical diving in with a new company, but David, the owner has been great to work with and will be working to keep building their list of devices they carry. The Raptor came courtesy of Heavengifts, who I have reviewed with since just about day one. Most of you already know who they are. Solid company, with a great staff to work with. Let’s dive right in and take a closer look at both of these devices and as always, I will give my final thoughts down at the bottom!

Disclaimer: The Ehpro Raptor was sent to me by Heavengifts for review. The Tesla Poker was sent to me by buyecigkits.

MOD OVERVIEW

This device has been out for a while. It kind of flew under the radar this spring, but it definitely caught my eye. I am a fan of the poker theme, as it done in a subtle fashion, with a somewhat digital camo pattern as well. This is a traditional box mod shape, which features a magnetic battery door which houses two 18650 batteries. The display on this device is a basic, but well laid out black and white LED display which shows everything you need to know. This device can handle up to a 24mm atomizer with no overhang. It will also work with 25mm atomizers, but due to the tapered top, there is a visible overhang that can be seen in the gallery.

OPERATION

I had a face palm moment when I first received this device. I hit the fire button 5 times repeatedly to turn it on and thought it was dead. If I was paying attention, I would see that there is an on/off sliding power button to do this. Not a bad thing, as it is quite solid, and I KNEW when it was on and off. Beyond that, the device is quite simple. There isn’t a full-blown menu system, so pressing the fire button three times highlights portions of the display. Cycle through each portion of the screen with the up and down buttons and hop into each portion by pressing the fire button.

- Resistance - You can set it to what the atomizer resistance is. If you select the resistance symbol you can lock the resistance as well.

- Battery bar – Selecting here will show the device firmware and hardware information.

- M, M1, M2 – These are areas to save setups that you like. M is the standard, while M1 and M2 can be saved.

- Lower right – This box is where you will set the mode it is in. Kanthal (power only), SS316 TC, Ni200 TC, Ti TC, TCR

- Lower left – This box is where you can select, Soft, Medium, and Hard preheat. You can also dive into a curve mode for temperature and wattage output.

In no time I was hopping around this device with ease. It is not complicated and works well.

HOW IT VAPES

Like I mentioned in the beginning, I used this as a kit with the Ehpro Raptor most of the time. When running the Raptor, I found that it ramped up quickly and provided a solid power output in wattage mode. I ran this with some RDAS at 120w, and it never missed a beat. Ramp time for me needed to be set to high, but once set, it was golden. I did a little bit of SSS316 testing and it failed miserably. It allows a solid preheat level, but power dropped out almost immediately and it was putting out just a handful of watts. Some things that popped out to me when using was how solid it feels in hand. The buttons are all nice and clicky and this thing is rattle free. Some things I noticed that I wasn’t a fan of are the battery indication, which shows a little high. It held at 100% for what felt like forever, but then finally tapered off to show more “normal” levels that I expected. Another thing that got to be super annoying is the resetting of power. Whenever it is turned on and fired, it asks if the atomizer is new or old. Regardless of the selection, it goes to a level the chip seems is correct for the resistance of the atomizer. This got very old over time. I ended up setting up M1 or M2 to the atomizers I was using as it was quicker to go to one of those than scroll and set it up again.

TESLA POKER PROS

  • Looks excellent
  • Feels solid
  • Nice, simple display

TESLA POKER CONS

  • Asks for resistance on each power up
  • Resets power to their “optimal” setting on each power up
  • 25mm and up will overhang
  • Battery indication is a little on the high side
  • Silly nitpicky con, but I have some friends complain that there aren’t other face cards besides aces, and I have to agree

EHPRO RAPTOR REVIEW

The Ehpro Raptor is the latest atomizer from Ehpro. This is a rather generic mesh sub-ohm tank, but it comes with coils on the side of innovation. They use what they are calling sea grass wicking on the coils. Their claim to fame here is that this lasts a lot longer than conventional cotton and provides great wicking and flavor. Other than the new wicking material, what you get is a 4 or 6ml tank, which is refilled with a sliding top cap, comes with a really nice resin 810 drip tip, but also comes with a 510 adapter. The tank looks great in my opinion, and the fact that this one comes in gunmetal to match up with a few of my other devices is a pro for me. I don’t have much to gripe about when it comes to the overall quality of this tank. The fitment of all parts is excellent. The sliding top cap is smooth, yet snug, and the air flow adjustment has just the right amount of tension.

So, it looks nice, and has innovative wicking, but how is it? In short, it’s pretty amazing. It might honestly be one of the most flavorful mesh tanks I have tried to date. The single and dual coil configurations both have excellent flavor, with the dual just barely edging out the single in my opinion. I ran the coils roughly 5w higher than they say they are good for to get the temperature I like, and the coil life is also quite good. I tested the single with a strawberry milk flavor and the dual with a sweetener invoiced fruit flavor and both held out well. The single got most of the testing and blew threw a 60ml bottle in no time and was still quite flavorful at that point. The dual coil is at about 20mls at this point and is also doing quite well. Air flow and overall smoothness of the vape is good, and it is pretty quiet as well. I dig the Raptor, with my ONLY complaint being that I can’t get the coils locally.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TANK PROS

  • Great flavor
  • Great coil life
  • Love how it looks, and really dig the gunmetal
  • Nice drip tip included, and a 510 for those who want to go that route
  • Smooth airflow
  • Nice fitment of top cap, airflow ring, and glass

TANK CONS

  • Coils are not available locally
  • Sliding top cap can leave a little bit of liquid on top after refills (haven’t seen a sliding one that doesn’t yet)

FINAL THOUGHTS

So, what do I think of the devices I got to review here? Let’s start out with the Poker. First off, I am impressed with out it looks and feels. The design is right up my alley and it functions well as a wattage device. Some of the things I mentioned with what I didn’t like was the slight overhang of 25mm atomizers, the constant request for new or old coil, and the resetting of power levels each time it was turned off and on. I got over these hiccups early as the look, feel, and power performance were good enough for me to overshadow these cons. I think this should have gotten a little bit more recognition when it was released, as it kind of came and went. I pretty much sat and gushed over the Raptor in the previous segment and I can keep on going with how much I like it, but I will keep it short. It has a lot of good going for it and I am happy to see companies looking to the future with different wicking methods to elevate the vaping experience.

OVEN TEST

If I these were to accidentally fall into my pizza oven would I go out and get them again? With the Ehpro Raptor, I probably won’t rush out and get one. I like it, but the way good tanks are coming out, another will come soon enough. As for the Poker, I really like it and I will keep using the heck out of it. As for getting another, I may pass, as I have a couple of other dual battery mods, I see myself carrying a bit more.

REVIEW CRITERIA: I use each item for about two weeks to ensure I have collected enough data to adequately write a review. I use the same e liquid in tanks or rdas throughout all my reviews to ensure that I am comparing apples to apples between all modern equipment. I do not post reviews until I feel confident that I have used it enough to give an educated review. The reason I started doing reviews was due to poor purchasing decisions in my vaping infancy about two years ago. Back then, I purchased several different pieces of hardware without really enjoying it and I hope my reviews can guide people into spending their hard-earned money more wisely than I did! ****Keep in mind that some items I receive may be pre-release and not in retail packaging. Quality may be less than the finished product and what is in the package may differ from the retail package as well.
