Plastic Tanks Breaking

Status
Not open for further replies.
I started vaping on my Birthday, October 11, 2014 - to quit cigarettes all together. I purchased the Trinity Rook with a wickless plastic tank. I (at this point) had done a little research and had "NOT" come across any information about how citrus flavored E-Juices degrade the plastic tanks and cause them to break. I went thru 3 tanks (thinkin' I was causing breakage somehow) before I finally found out about this problem with citrus E-juice degrading plastic tanks. I have switched to Pyrex Glass Tanks and "waalaa" no more problems, and better vape. I am posting this just to get the word out to any new vapers that may be experiencing the same problem. I think it is about time the manufacturers start placing warnings on their products and perhaps even stop placing plastic tanks on their Vape Pens. I have found plenty of lists of E-juice "NOT" to use in plastic tanks, but not one list of E-Juices that "CAN" be used with plastic tanks.

A lot of tanks, or the vendors of the tanks (usually not the manufacturers) specify somewhere on the information page that, "This tank uses glass, and will not crack despite citrus/anise/etc. juices."

I suppose a main reason that e-liquid manufacturers don't put "CAN BE USED WITH PLASTIC TANKS" is because it's sort of arbitrary. Some juices have less tank-cracking flavorings in them (and it's not just citrus juices by the way, it's anything acidic, which can be found even in coffee flavors) and it's sort of up to experimentation whether/not a juice will crack a tank. If you re-fill a plastic tank 1,000 times with a flavor that's not usually known to crack plastic, it's possible that on the 1,001st fill, it'll crack your plastic.

Additionally, I've had juices which are KNOWN tank-crackers NOT affect my plastic tanks at all!

I think the real solution would be to just move away from plastic tanks altogether. They just shouldn't be used to contain e-liquid if there's ANY risk that the e-liquid could degrade or destroy the plastic. I've heard of plastic literally "melting" upon coming in contact with certain e-liquids, which makes me believe that during the degradation there is some plastic chemicals seeping into the e-liquid, and then likely being vaporized. The fact alone that most people can taste the plastic when vaping in a plastic tank should be proof enough that something's happening to our e-liquid.

Anyway, this was a long-winded post.

This is a good thing to know. Even though I have disposed of all the plastic tanks I had (2) and upgraded to the Kanger ProTank II (8.99 on Ebay, tank only no beauty ring or extra coil or box, just came in a sealed white box) this is good information to pass on to people who are curious about vaping. Since i've been vaping (under a month) i've had several people ask me if I liked it better than smoking and would I recommend it. My answer is always the same.... OF COURSE.

Let the wind blow, we're here for you. Isn't the point of the forum to learn what others have to say?

I hate plastic. Plastic sucks.

I only vape in pyrex/stainless steel, and I really appreciate juice companies that supply juice in quality glass bottles.

The plastic bits that came with my kayfun went in the garbage as soon as I opened the box. Quartz kit all the way.

Everyone should do themselves a favour and eliminate any and all plastic from their vaping arsenal. Trust me, you won't regret it.

edit:

I don't even use plastic tupperware anymore. All glass. No plastic bowls or cups. No plastic Brita water filter.
I'm not sure how much toxins leech out of what plastics under what conditions, so I just avoid them all together.

Good post. I was just thinking the other day how the subject matter changes around forums- we've gone from mentioning that often, to infrequently. And drinking plenty of fluids, etc, etc.

Maybe there was in the past less focus on Buying, and more focus on Using.
