I've been using an igo-w with a smoktech groove (15W, 5A, 6V max). I have a 1.8ohm dual ribbon coil at 6 volts but my protank even out performs it. I drilled out the igo air holes just a tiny bit too.

I need high watts. I was going to wait for things like the new Gi2 40W regulated box mod to be more available, but I want this now.

I know to use the ohms law calculator and to just not exceed the battery limits. I'm going to stay quite a bit under the battery limits to be safe, for example, if it's a 12A 45W battery, I won't make builds that are over like 9A 38W. I know that when a coil gets gunked, it can lower in ohms (my protank does that), so I'll watch out for a spike that might exceed the battery limits.

I hope I can last 3ml on one 18650, but I don't think's possible, maybe at around .7 ohms it is. I guess I'll get two batteries for now and carry a spare.

I'm asking for links for:
two 18650 and charger,
and a cheap mech mod, hopefully non-telescopic because I'm only using 18650 and I just don't want the extra feature. I don't realyl care about color or fancy, just basic and low price but not made from shady metals that leach poision or anything.

If ebay has the best deals, link those. FT is okay too. Thanks.:vapor:

My FT Sony 10 amp 18650 batts were shipped 10-28-13.
Status is "Hong Kong, Acceptance, Origin Post is Preparing Shipment".

I think this just means FT sent it to a post office and they are noting that they got it. If they reject it, that's probably part of the preparing part. Regardless, I don't think there'll be a problem. It's not like probably 90% of all batteries are shipped from china anyway. Mayeb FT will have to pay (and charge) extra for a battery fee.

I'm going to get one of those FT mods and the nitecore i2 from FT.

I'm honestly confused by batteries. SLR I assume is Super Low Resistance hence the 30A which if I'm correct means like .3 ohms with tons of vapor but less battery life. I'm wanting something sort of in between, like .6 coils with longer battery life. But with FT being so cheap, maybe I'll get 4 of the 30A and carry two spares?

I normally charge batts in deep metal pan w/ metal lid.
I prefer to carry batts in lined Altoids tin, a slightly thicker tin would hold typical plastic batt holder.
I prefer to keep loose batts in metal container.
I like to drill extra holes if APV doesn't have vents on both ends.
I'm torn about drilling vent holes in incoming UltraFire C8 XM-L T6 1000-Lumen Waterproof LED Flashlight.
I test all new RBA coil builds w/ spring mod because spring will likely collapse in event of hard short; been there done that.
I like mechanical fuses and am looking for 18mm PCB so I can make some for my incoming springless fuseless 18650 APV.
The FT sony 10amp 18650 works fantastic at 0.7 ohms, 4 volts, 5.7 amps with impressive life.
Have not tried 30 amp because have no plans for sub 1/2 ohm vaping.

That was good one +1

Isn't a metal case a bad idea?

Are you saying the spring gives added safety? Because I was considering a magneto clone with magnets in place of the spring.

I haven't quite digested Baditude's blog posts yet (many thanks), so I'm still battery shopping.

I think emus was talking of a collapsable hot spring. When a battery gets so hot, the heat transfers to the spring and causes the spring to either melt or collape, theoretically breaking a battery's circuit to the mod. It's considered a primitive safety feature in most mods. I would choose a mod that uses one over one that doesn't, although I'm not entirely convinced how well they work.

I've had a battery go into thermal runaway despite the mechanical mod having a hot spring and using a protected battery. Both protections failed.

Hopefully metal case will contain flames if batt decides to erupt. Should use common sense to prevent batt shorting inside case.

Baditude is correct in regards to hot spring. Even a standard spring can function as a hot spring w/ high amps due to hard short. The spring gets red hot and collapses which will likely stop current flow. My standard spring collapsed and blued before my 10 amp batt even got warm; about 1 second.

Another nice safety device is a a coin type fuse to isolate batt from APV in event of short; I'm in the market for one now.

Thanks for your help and I didn't have to read 71 page threads.

I guess I'll get a mod with a hot spring instead of magnets or a non-hot spring.
I'd like it to be able to fit an inline fuse + an 18650.

However, a vendor notes in their vapesafe fuse description that it 'Prevents Hot Springs from collapsing.'

The vapesafe HD version has: Trip Current Rating: 6Ampls; Hold Current Rating: 3.5 Amps. It's like $15.00 compared to the single-use one at like $6 shipped but I don't want single use.

Won't the 6A limit prevent high-watts/Amps for dual sub ohm coils?

Wheather you suggest I get an inline fuse plus a hot spring, or one or the other, can you select the lest expensive mod from the following that can be used for that? My only preference really is that's it's not like hot pink. I prefer it to be plain stainless steel/aluminum instead of coated with sketchy cheap coatings or metals. I want vent holes of course, but I can drill them if it saves a few bucks.

mods: 227 Electronic Cigarettes (Product Type: Mod / Battery Compartment) at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

I'm probably getting a nitecore i2 charger.

I hope someone can also link which batteries. 204 Batteries (Battery Form Factor: 18650) at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

What i'm planning to do to the batteries is: build dual .6 ohm coils with ribbon kanthal. Ribbon kanthal sort of on the thick side for a micro coil affect. I don't care if it takes a second to heat up, but I don't think I'll even notice with such high watts. I'd like to be able to drip 2.5 ml per battery, but I don't know if that's possible. I'd like to get away with only buying two batteries to start and carrying one spare, but if the coils I'm planning to build are asking for too much battery lifem then I'll carry two spares .

I'm probably going to sell this set up in approx 6 months when there are hopefully a bunch of regultated 40W dual 18650 box mods out like the Gi2 (but hopefully smaller). I was going to wait for the DNA20 clone any day now, but I want to go all out, higher than 20W.

Thanks.
