I have had my Provari mini for a few days now and it's been working fine. I have three batteries from provape the AW IMR brand and a few minutes ago I was just changing my extended 18490 out with an 18350 and when I touched the primary mini end cap on the battery I noticed very small sparks every time I touched the battery with the end cap. I didn't know if my dark room and tv were playing visual tricks on me so I touched the battery with the end cap again and removed it and kept repeating the process. There are little sparks!

I assumed the battery was the issue so I tried to put another 18350 in it and it didn't do it with that one as much but it still did it slightly. The menu system and all functionality is working fine I'm just freaked out.

This is my first tube mod and I can't find any information about this anywhere.

Ps. I didn't insert it backwards and I'm using the unprotected batteries from provape.

I'm gonna look like a dork if this is normal but I figured safety first.

contact provape. the provari flashes the screen briefly when inserting a battery but i never saw mine spark. something does sound amiss though it might be something really simple. your carto isnt shorted out is it?

I wouldn't know. I use vivi novas. Both my vivi nova and drip attys have been firing and they still are. Would they be firing if they shorted out?

I got the Provari as a Christmas gift so would I need to get the original family member who bought it to contact them?

How can you see it spark since the spring never touches the negative end of the battery until you screw in the cap a turn or two?

Must be the button flash you saw, not a spark.

No. There is a clear distinction between a blue flashing light and small white sparks of electricity around the threading and battery. And I'm talking about the non extension cap. You can touch the spring on to the battery without screwing it in. I still am getting used to screwing in the cap with so much resistance in the spring so it usually takes me a second to push and screw the cap in. I was being clumsy enough to where I kept dropping the cap when trying to screw it in while laying down. The sparks are small and only happen with the end cap is touching the end of the battery and the threading in sequence.

I see small sparks that only briefly flash when an electrical connection is made but go away if that connection is kept.

I'm talking about all of this without ever locking in a single thread.

Hmmm. i am using original bottom cap too. I know when spring makes contact with bottom of battery since the button flashes, it needs me two full turns of the cap before it does. Are you sure you are using AW IMR battery? These are colored red. Protected batteries which are not recommended are longer than unprotected IMR.

I'm absolutely certain. They are red and say AW IMR on them and have the nipple. They're the one in the list of optional extras when you buy the Provari on provape. If it means anything I have the mini.

Hi Seth,
Those wouldn't both work if they were shorted. You have the right batteries. I suggest the same as inanity did - contacting Provape. I'm not sure how it works if some-one gifted you the Provari - you could ask Provape what you need to do. A pv putting out sparks is not good.

Thanks. :)

But I can't find provapes email for the life of me. I've been all over their website and no luck. You wouldn't happen to know where to find it?

It is just electricity arching over the gap just before cap makes contact with tube body. It's called spark gap. Electricity jumps over the gap because the button has a LED flash indicator once battery is inserted and cap closed.

With my standard provari, it needs 2 turns before button flashes. I guess it is different in the mini. Battery probably connects right away when cap touches the tube without any thread turns needed.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. This all sounds pretty normal. It's typical for a circuit to spark a little if it's closed, which it is, at least somewhat, to operate the battery indicator light. Sounds like the same sort of thing that can cause sparks at electrical outlets that you'll often see if you plug something in when it's dark.
