I quit smoking and started using an electronic cigarette about 3 weeks ago. I started at 18mg and about a week ago went down to 14mg. Two days ago I smoked a lot more than usual, taking deep throat hits and my throat started up feel sore. I figured it was from the e cig and toned it down. Yesterday I barely smoked most of the day and it started to feel better. In the evening I gave in and started using my e cig again because my throat was feeling better. By the end of the night, my throat was really hurting, much more than it had the night prior. When I woke up this morning, the pain was still immense. I have not smoked at all today because the throat pain I am experiencing is almost unbearable. I can't talk, eat, drink, swallow without experiencing extreme pain on the left side of my throat. I tried looking at my throat in the mirror but I could not see the area where the pain is coming from. I have tried to gargle salt water and I have been guzzling water despite how painful it is. I am wondering if I should go to urgent care or is this normal? I have a pretty high pain tolerance and this is worse than any kind of sore throat I have ever experienced. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What pg/vg ratio are you using? I 2 have been suffering with a sore throat but mine has now getting better. I have found when I vaped a higher pg mine got worse. I think it is also to do with giving up cigarettes, your body is still getting used to having no cigs.

I have been using 80/20, which is just what the shop recommended I use, beyond that I don't really understand pg/vg ratios. Is your sore throat super painful?

If it was *me* I'd give it a little while longer before seeing the doctor...

I found the early days very difficult... extreme dehydration and a noticeable problem with PG, which I didn't realise at the time.

Have you come out of a cold/cough in addition? Just a thought....

Not everybody takes well to e-cig vapour instantly. Are you using a reputable brand/equipment? Not all e-cigs are equal.

I used 80pg 20vg and it give me a bad throat. I now use 70vg 30pg. Yeah it has been very painful. Don't do direct lung hits with anything above 6mg. I mouth to lung on 12mg and direct lung on 6mg. Make sure you drink lots of water and get some lozenges.

That depends.... High amounts of PG are known to cause sore throats. I have experienced this myself. High Nicotine values can also do the same thing. Also, some folks are sensitive to PG, or even allergic to PG...... So, get a juice with higher VG in it and lower Nicotine in it and see if that helps.

I would check the label on the bottle to see if maybe it lists the PG/VG ratio, some do some don't. If it's 80VG/20PG it should be easier on the throat, unless you have a sensitivity to VG, or maybe a flavoring.

Lowering the nicotine could also help like the others have mentioned. What kind of device are you using? And what flavors are you using?

If you can stop vaping without having an analog I would try to. If not take smaller puffs and drop your wattage until you have a chance to adjust your juice or your throat feels better. Your sore throat could be caused by so many things. Keep us posted. I am interested to hear how things go. Hope you feel better soon!

Maybe I missed it, but I fail to see the OP claim what device let alone at what wattage is being used.

With ANYTHING other than a gas station ecig, 3-6MG is too much by far. And will give the most seasoned vapor sores, albeit temporary sure. Repeat, Even 3-6 can be way too much.

The nicotine in analogs is in my own words, masked, let alone the secondary and most vicious addictive chemical (whatever this might be who knows)

PG can cause irritation, VG not so much in my experience. Nicotine is corrosive, lower it, plain and simple. :)

Ok thank you. Should I hold off on vaping altogether until the pain subsides?

    Yes.

And if you are vaping 20 watts, 14mg is too high for constant vaping.

for new vapers, the mouth to lung technique is important.
it helps you detect a dry or burnt hit.

if you direct lung hit a dry or burnt hit, you do a lot of damage before you realise its too hot.

Op wants answers but hasn't given much detail.

A Low-Sub ohm build in the hands of a Novice Vaper can become a serious issue.
Vaping at to high power for the atomizer/e-liquid could be the culpret or maybe just over indulgence.
