One state here in Australia has been seizing nicotine imports and fining people up to $8000. The rest of Australia looks set to follow suit. I've been vaping for 4 weeks now, and after 20+ years of smoking, this has been my first successful attempt to give up.
Please help me, and my fellow Aussies by taking a minute or so to vote for this to be targeted by a well known group of activists here in Australia, GetUp.
E-Cigarettes getting addicts of the smokes - and Queenslands wants to ban them
If you're also on Facebook or Twitter, could you share the link by clicking the icon on the page when you're done voting?
I hope you can find the time to assist, it would be greatly appreciated :)
Thanks heaps in advance!

Problem is.. politicians will tell you they work for the people that they represent. That means, emails, letters, phone calls from us even a few miles away - but outside their voting block - mean nothing to them. Let alone in a different hemisphere. We do it ... I voted, I emailed, etc... but at the end of the day, you have to fight your own battle. What we say - or do - means nothing to "them".

I can see a potential reverse migration trend. Aussies might start moving to New Zealand. But seriously, I agree that more ECF members should be posting comments and voting on that site. But don't get angry in your frustration regarding lack of responses - just think of more ways to encourage support for the great activist work that you are doing.

Cheers mate, I can see how it looked like an angry statement... but I guess it was written more out of despair than anything else. Thanks for the encouragement!

As I understand it re-sale of nicotine liquid is illegal and has been for at least two years. So any suppliers over there only sell kits but no nicotine. Personal imports are allowed, except it would appear in Queensland.

That really stinks. I guess similar to Canada, though I believe in Canada people can get nic, if they order from within Canada and not outside the country. I have heard that even personal imports of nic juice are confiscated, which makes sense (sort of) if in country nic sales are legal, and the country is trying to stop unapproved imports. However, I have also heard that nic is banned altogether in Canada. At any rate, Canadians would be limited in what they can get, and probably pay more, and that would be very frustrating, especially if they are having to sneak personal imports past customs.

Thank you for all your votes and well wishes! Please keep the votes rolling in if you have time to help us out.

At this stage it is only Queensland Health that has banned nicotine imports, possession and sales. However, the rest of the country seems set to follow suit very shortly. This has resulted in panic buying of larger quantities, which also breaches legislation that allows the personal importation of up to 3 months supply (everywhere but Qld).
The Health Protection Directorate Executive Director Sophie Dwyer has issued this media release, titled "Regional Queenslanders warned e-cigarettes are poison": http://www.health.qld.gov.au/news/media_releases/qhe_cigs0515.pdf which incidently, claims that "electronic cigarettes are illegal" which they aren't.
Under current legislation in Qld, possession of nicotine is illegal, unless of course it's in the form of tobacco or approved nicotine replacement therapies. As e-cigs are not approved as therapeutic devices for quitting cigarettes, the use of nicotine in them is banned.
Customs in Australia have been handing over parcels that are destined for Qld to Qld Health, who have been confiscating the nicotine liquid and issuing fines.
Funnily enough, nicotine is considered the same level of risk/toxicity as fluoride, which Qld Health decided to put in our water supplies. So according to this, I could be committing a crime by pouring myself a glass of tap water by being in possession of a schedule 7 poison!

Aussie authorities need to take a page out of the FDA's book, as ridiculous as the FDA can often be, and just allow ecigs to be regulated as tobacco products, and not a nicotine replacement therapy (or drug delivery system) - though it didn't happen here without a fight either.
