Hi Saibyn and welcome. Atomizer short means that your mod is reading zero resistance (short) and is trying to protect itself by shutting down. There's something wrong with your coil(s)--maybe it's touching some metal part of the atty?

This thread may be helpful--click on the link and see if you can find help there. If not, tell us more about your coils. Resistance etc.

Maybe you need to upgrade your firmware?

It sounds like you are having a connection issue. You could check your 510 pin on the mod (it's where the tank screws in) and make sure it's not stuck or pressed down. The other thing that could be happening is that your tank's pin is too short for the mod to read. You can unscrew the tank, turn it upside down, and you'll see what looks like a screw, get a screwdriver and untwist the screw head a little bit, which will make the pin longer, and may help your atomizer register. You want to make sure your coil is screwed in tightly, but not ridiculously so... a hair tighter than finger tight is what I usually do, but I'm still only using my fingers, LOL.

All of the above may work, or none of it might. With that said, if you try these remedies and are unsuccessful, I'd suggest taking it to a brick and mortar if you have one near you, to see if they can help you out. If it's an online purchase, you may need to warranty the gear.

Normally, I'd say try the tank on a different mod, but I guess you can't, yet.

MOST OF ALL, don't let this discourage you from starting vaping, sometimes starting up can be a bit difficult.... It's also good to have a backup vape, if you really want to quit (this could be something less expensive) so if something happens to one setup, you aren't left stranded.....

Best of luck and welcome to ECF, good luck in your quest to start vaping!

You'll get used to it all. The Melo 300 comes with a six coils (in one) 0.17 beast!
Think of it as attaching a space rocket to your skateboard. Great - if you like that kind of thing.

Take the tank off and try to fire the device as if there were a tank on it. If you get the same message, the mod has a defective connector and it should be returned. If you get a no atomizer message, the problem is with the tank or coil.

Take the coil out and examine the bottom. You should see two small wire ends--one protruding just above the last gasket thingie and one just below it. Make sure the second one does not stick out past the edge of the gasket above it. If it does, use a needle, toothpick or small screwdriver to gently push it back so that it doesn't stick out.

Then using thumb and forefinger on the top of the coil, push the coil down bottom first against a hard surface to make sure the coil can screw in straight.

When inserting a coil into the base, tighten it to finger snug only. Don't use a wrench or pliers and don't over tighten. Over tightening squishes the gasket thingies on the bottom and can cause faulty connections. Same thing with attaching the tank to the device. Turn it just until it stops or just until you get some physical resistance.

How many coils did you get? I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with your tank; I'm a mouth-to-lung vaper and never use very low resistance coils.

Hopefully somebody who knows you tanks will come along soon with.

Have you tried watching YouTube videos? They can be helpful for new (and experienced) users. Start at 25 min to see the tank.

Read the instructions, check that you're in a correct mode (power or temperature control), try another coil... If nothing works, send it back,

The eleaf Pico (75Watt version) has a similar issue and can be fixed by placing a spacer under the tank.

Here in the picture is my Pico with 2 spacers. One I made myself from an old AT&T card, the other is a heat spacer. Both work great to keep my tanks at the right height.

I took the tank off and it still says atomizer short so I guess it is the mod

Spacers fix No Atomizer problem (no contact). I'm not sure how they can fix a short?

Sometimes the short is from a bad connection at the 510 connector and this can fix it.

Although as the OP now says, even without a topper, there is a short.....

Sounds like it.

Before you send or take it back, have a good look at the little pit that the atomizer screws into. Get a q-tip swabbed with rubbing alcohol and clean it out as good as you can. Using a pin, needle or a toothpick, gently go around the edge of the bright metal pin in the center and gently pry up a bit in several different places, trying to get it to come upwards. Then try the fire button, again with no tank on it.

If you still get the message, it's return-for-exchange-or-refund time.

Warranty the mod, and while you are waiting, go get a backup setup. Really, having an issue with one's first mod is bad luck, BUT do NOT let it keep you from your plan to switch from smoking to vaping, I cannot emphasize this enough.

I arrived here, wanting to quit, and I had gear that wasn't right for me, but I hung in there and kept trying and this board was so helpful. Please don't give up, you'll be giving yourself a gift that you don't even realize how precious it is yet.

I'd been smoking for all of my adult life, I had no idea what food tasted like, what it felt like to be able to breathe, etc. Don't give up. Seriously.
