I think the "pod mods" serve a useful purpose in the grand scheme of things. I think they can be especially ideal for a new vaper hoping to use them to help them to quit smoking but are intimidated by the size and "complexity" of common vape setups.
Many are "plug & play" ready to use right out of the box, are relatively simple to use and maintain, and can be quite convenient for those folks who "just want to vape" and not get involved with more complex vaping setups that require more knowledge and perhaps more skills to operate and maintain. I will say that it seems one will pay out more financially in the long run for that simplicity and convenience, compared to the more advanced setups.
I know of some experienced vapers who have used the more sophistacated vape setups who use a pod setup for more specialized situations, such as when "stealth vaping" or when out-and-about when using a larger setup which produces more vapor would be less acceptable.
I've tried one in a vape shop. I doubt that I personally purchase one because I have become a DTL vaper and probably couldn't go back to a MTL setup. It might be nice to have one as a small discrete stealth vape, but I already have a
Digiflavor Upen vape pen review and the instances that I actually use it are far and few.
I can't speak with any authority on nic salts. I inquired about using them when at my local vape shop recently, and the shop salesman (who I tend to respect his knowledge and experience) advised me not to use them with my current gear (Sub-ohm DTL tanks) because they would probably make me nic sick.
I'm extremely happy with my current vape gear. I can't see me changing over to a completely different (and possibly backwards) vape setup that would require new gear and e-liquids.

Agree on the Nic salts sub ohm'ing would most likely make you feel ill
I couldn't get my SO to vape because he coughed too much and he'd tried everything else to get off cigs. I picked up a couple pods on sale, including myblu, and once I put a different liquid in them he liked them. Now he duel uses but without the pods he wouldn't even do that.
I won a mtl tank and when I built it he used it but he keeps going back to pods. They definitely have a place in helping people quit smoking.

I enjoy mine. They're great for out & about, though i'm not averse to using them at home. I'd rank them above 'backup' status.
I won't go near closed systems, and I'll probably avoid nic salts.
If memory serves, they're a pretty good step up from ce4s.

So I've been given some pods to review lately, personally, they are good and do the trick. seemingly very discrete and a decent battery life
Whats everyone's thoughts?

I'd say that Pod Mods are a new and improved version of the original cig-a-like. Compact, can be easily carried around in a pocket, easy to switch out a cartridge, lightweight, are AIO (all in one) devices which aren't too expensive or fiddly and don't take up any time maintaining.
Aimed at young people and fully TPD compliant, the Pod systems are attractive to those who see a potential health benefit going through a phase of vaping rather than smoking. I've read that the Juul has become extremely popular in colleges and universities.
Most importantly though, the Pod Systems will enable young people who have never smoked to over come the desire to start.

Mod/Tank setups...are bigger, heavier, best suited for "At Home", give a satisfying vape, (can be) inexpensive to buy and inexpensive to use...
I've found that my Goby gives me the best of BOTH worlds...
It's small, lightweight, convenient for "Out & About", gives a satisfying vape (thus also fits in "At Home"), inexpensive to buy and inexpensive to use...

I started with 808 e-cigs and that got old REALLY fast, so I quickly moved to pods before I found this forum. Hence, my name. I've tried quite a few open pod systems and have had very mixed results with them in terms of reliability, battery life, flavor, and failure rate. I've since moved on to a small mod and MTL tank, but I do enjoy pod systems for their convenience, ease of use, and stealthiness. I just wish I could find one that had the flavor and reliability of my mod and tank. Then it would absolutely still be my main device. But I'm going broke trying to find the right one.

Have you tried the breeze flavour is good vaped vampire vapes heisenberg pretty decent flavour
Sourin air2,cheap, refillable and vapes pretty good. There great for work and out and about. Nic salt is the way to go in these pods. I normally vape 3mg but I vape 18-24 in a pod.
By the way, if they are popular in schools then its a parenting issue. (you have to be 18 to purchase just like analogs)

Nah, I wanted a true pod design, not an AIO device. I vowed not to get into mods, tanks, coils, etc., but here I am! LOL
Personally, I can get just as good a Vape on an old evod or an istick basic or an ego one or an egrip. I have tried a couple of pods but don't find anything special about them.
I do use nic salt at sub ohm. I use the same strength as I would the freebase form. No biggie, in fact I kinda like it. Don't fear the salt, lol.
I do the same. I have 500ml that I mixed at 6mg. I like it because I get the same amount of nicotine but you can't tell it is there.
