Pontus vs big dripper clone

Hey guy / gals,
Looking to get one of these new rdta's or whatever there called as dripping and driving is a pain and ever since getting my clt rda its hard to vape my kayfuns. Plus I like the idea of being able to pocket them so I don't have to constantly pull out a bottle of juice when I'm in public. What are the pros and cons of each . My main things I'm looking for in order
Vapor production
Flavor
Pocketability
Reliability / build quality

Reo is not even remotely possible, wife would kill me, for shelling out the dough right now for one. Also because I really wanna get one of these 100w box mods in a couple of months.

I vape on a mech using mostly 26g dual micro coils around .35-.5 ohms coils if that matters at all.

Or if both of these rdta are no good I'm open to suggestions on other tanks with these capabilities

You could possibly mod the pontus to be a cloud machine but it definitely is not heavy on flavor.

Mine is mostly reserved for the occasional long drive but I did spend a whole day with it as my carry device and it was fine. No leaking or anything.

From the sounds of it , it seems like it just sorta all right? and how is vapor production out of the box? Or what mods do u think would have to be done to increase it

Base on my limited experience with the BD, thus far, the BD is without question a must for any experienced dripper fan.

It's quite simple to set up. AFC is easily adjusted. It affords very good flavor and vapor production. However, it's still a bit short of my go to dripper set-up, the Reo Grand.

Very good to hear, Is yours the clone or authentic? Also that reo looks badass

My Pontus vs. Big Dripper Review: I was able to pickup the Pontus and the Big Dripper. I spent a lot of time with the Pontus since I received it first. It's not a bad device. I like the glass tank and you also get a spare glass tank in the box. It works ok. Just ok. The vapor and seems to get lost somewhere in the tube as it assends up thru the drip tip. The suggestion is to use thicker juice like 75/25 vgpg so it won't leak. I had no leaking issues. The flavor is muted and the vapor production should be more. It holds about 5mls of juice and on a long drive you wont have to worry about refilling.
My experience with the Big Dripper has been fantastic. It doesn't hold as much juice as the Pontus dripper. But the flavor and vapor is like that of a str8 dripper. The technology is similar but the BD has better airflow and I think thats what makes the vape so much better. I have to refill the BD 2 times before filling the Pontus. But with the great vape the BD offers, I think it's worth it. My pick is obvious the Big Dripper.

Thanks for the detailed reply, based upon the few comments looks like the big dripper is what ill go with. I would much rather have a good vape and have to fill more often, then something that's just sorta meh and probably resort back to my clt rda. I wish I wouldve never started Down the road of drippers cuz vaping anything else now just doesn't do it.
Anything I need to know about what kind of builds work best in this beast? Just dont wanna get any of those cotton dry hits........

This is my build. I have had this for almost 2 weeks. I changed the wicks once. The coils are a bit gunky so it's bout time to burn'em again.

@foggdawg if you don't mind me asking, what dia coils or bit you use? And gauge they look like bigger dia coils but hard to tell from the pic. Reason I ask is I only ever build micros 1/16" 26 guage or parallel 28guage and was wondering how the bigger coils perform. I always have to pack my micros full of cotton and only can use a few drops.

I think these are 26ga used a 3mm bit to wrap the coil. .45ohms.

Like anything else, increase airflow.
Either add air holes or open the stock ones.

The deck is based on the tobh design, so it has those stupid built in afc tabs that should be ground down.

Little update- just rebuilt the pontus.

Decided I would try a build to help bring some flavor out. Couldn't care less about clouds for this rig; big clouds aren't ideal when you are driving.

IME single parallel coil is where it is at for flavor. So I put together a .6ohm coil using 28g with a 3mm ID.

Then I grabbed a drip tip from a Kayfun lite (which IMO is half of where a Kayfun gets its flavor).

Results:
well, it's a little better. Flavor is still a bit muted.
Only semi practical thing I can think of at this point is fashion a chamber reducer for the deck and hope for the best. Don't know if it is worth bothering though.

Sortve sucks cuz I really wanted to go with the pontus as a vendor I always buy from has them, plus its an authentic but gonna have to pass... I see cactusesmokes has the big dripper for $29 right now but I really don't wanna have my c.card info spread all over. May just have to order anyways

It seems if you primarily use RTAs, then flavor from the Pontus is great. If you prefer RDAs, however, it seems flavor from the Pontus is muted.

I have a Big Dripper clone coming in from Fasttech (for $15, how could I refuse) so I guess I will know for sure soon enough.

Not an unfair hypothesis.
I definitely prefer drippers these days. That aside, I can easily get better flavor from a Kayfun than the pontus. I by far prefer the the draw of the pontus, not to mention it easily wins for vapor production

Yea I'm stuck on my dripper, don't ever vape my kayfuns anymore. It's just so hard to go back. Hopefully the big dripper will live up to all my expectations

Oh it will surprise you!
All my other RTAs are tossed back in the vape box. I wasn't expecting much with mine but was blown away with the ease of build, flavor, vapor production and perfect single press saturation of my wicks.

I have both on the way, intended for use on the provari p3 when it comes out. I have terrible luck with kayfuns and I run a reo grand with a trident v2 at 0.32 ohms. It gets pretty wild lol. It'll be interesting to compare. I like the looks of the pontus, and it's smaller if I'm not mistaken? But if the big dripper works better, then that's what I'll use and maybe even order an authentic
