Sooooo.... I have been building coils with 32 kanthal and various wicks for some time now.PTs, Evods, and RDAs. I just recently got some 30 kanthal and have been building on my Nimbus. Well, I have blown 3 coils in 3 days using the 30g. Always when dry burning before putting in new cotton. Never happened with my 32 from Temco. My question is..... Could this be bad wire? Am I missing somthing here? Very frustrating. Lucky for me I carry a contact case with wire and wick(just in case) and it has come in handy lately, but rebuilding while out is a pain! All builds are in 1.5 range. and don't go over 4v whether I am dry burning or not. Usually use every build at 3.0v. Please help. Thanks.

In my experience the thicker resistance wires (lower gauge numbers) are less prone to melt and popping. There are a number of different grades of Kanthal and melt temperatures vary between them. The 30 gauge wire you are using now obviously melts easier than the 32 you are used to, so don't hold the button as long. Pulsing on and off can really help. You can keep the wire glowing red but not too hot this way.
