I was just sitting here thinking about what coil to build next and an idea pops into my head for a "twisted clapton" maybe already thought of and may not be worth it but before building one I thought I would get u guys feedback.

My idea is to twist a long piece of kanthal like 32 gauge or something then make a Clapton with like 26 gauge core and wrap the twisted around it.

Thoughts?

Yes but you could use any gauge kanthal or nicrome u want I was just wondering how it would perform vs a regular clapton
Hmmmm.... I'll try it out later this week, I think.... I'll use 34g for the twist and wrap instead of 32g....
I would think you would need a really tight twist followed by a tight wrap to minimize gaps between the core and the wrap....

The OP was asking about using twisted wire as the wrap, not the core....
Side note, how's the second wire perform? I've tried twisted cores and like how they look when wrapped but haven't had much luck with making a good coil from them, either because they were my earlier attempts at wrapping or I only made.enough for a single coil and the wrapped wire is too thick for the posts on everything I have that cn take a single coil....

They look pretty but like all art coils suck to vape on.

The key to a good Clapton is to use the smallest wire you can get as the wrap wire. Any excess mass takes away from performance. My favorite Clapton is a 28 awg wrapped in 36 awg. Or for a rda parellel 28 wrapped in 36 (fused Clapton).
