Possible Option? Maybe?

Hi Rob and all,

I'm really enjoying my Grand and VVGrand, my wife loves her Grand.

One thing we wondered, due to the fact we are sorta fumble fingered and arthritic, is could it be possible to offer an option to have the squonk window as shown below, wrapping from the backside around the corner to the side as outlined in white? Of course the window on the front sliding panel would need be closed probably. Sure might help ergonomically, maybe. Just an idea.

Thanks for lookin'.

Not a bad idea! My only issue would be accidental squanking. With a unprotected corner I would be easier for me to have something accidentally squank while its in my pocket, backpack, fallen down on the floor board in my truck or sitting on it. Most people probably treat theirs a little better than me and it wouldn't be an issue though.

Perhaps, if there's structural concerns, one could mount a plunger/button/knob on the edge/side (with a larger interior part that pushes the bottle). -OR- I wonder if we couldn't devise something that clips onto that hole (existing squonk opening), and protrudes a bit, for a kind of "heel of the hand" pressure squonk.

Phase one: introduction of concept.

Phase two: proof of concept, rough trials . . . . √

Phase three: feedback from REOnauts . . . . . . . . ?
You will need something smaller on the side that makes contact with the bottle . The large block has to much surface area. This will make it difficult to push

Thanks, Rob. My thought was to start with a thicker piece and shape a "belly" on the inside face. Surprisingly, though, it's working pretty well like this.

My main interest is whether it's any easier to squonk this way, the ergonomics of pain, of you will.

So, If someone with difficulty squonking wanted to try this "idea", I could send them a few shapes and thicknesses; and they could tell me if this even helps.

btw; dodari, I did think to offer to just remove the part of the REO for you (that corner that's in your way). Still would if you wanted; however, not only does it take away a lot of structure, but there's nothing on the other two faces that you'd want to be mashing the bottle up against when you do squonk . . .. not the door and not the battery)

Thank you, Pdib, I'm thinking about your offer. Your observations as to structural strength and accidental squonking are certainly well taken. I appreciate that others noted these also.

Pianoguy, I tried covering the air hole and sucking 'til my eyes crossed and my voice changed to castratti soprano but no juice. Once I ceased attempting sucking my voice returned to "whiskey bass" a description a church choir director once described my voice as. Put off by the director's opinion I left the church and returned to the bar down the street to drink more whiskey in order to improve my voice. People at the bar were a helluva lot more friendly than at the church, they were always open about the time I could really start to function, "Round About Midnight"(Thelonius Sphere Munk-chord change every bar--old Baritone sax player here).

May I say that my idea on this should in NO WAY be considered a complaint about Rob's dam well thought out, crafted and perfected design, period. Mine works and they(both Grand and VVGrand) work every time.

I will try to get a couple more pics of what I had in mind to maybe help explain my idea further later. Wife knows how to post pics, I'm computer challenged.

Yeah, I tried the sucking thing too; but it only worked for me if I lightly squonked at the same time. .. so.

My concerns are less structural, and more, like I said, if we cut that corner out and you squonked that direction, you'd be shoving the bottle against the thinnest part of the door and the battery.

It's fine if you don't like my "button" idea.......saves me the trouble ;)

Maybe something to grab the bottle with some type of lever? So when you squeeze it it squeezes the bottle. Like a smaller version of those kids toys. My son had one has a little claw and you squeeze it to tighter. Down.

Like this but have it bent and coming out the door?

Hahahaha! I've found that it only works well if your drip tip has an o-ring that makes a tight seal. The one I have in my RM2 right now works like a charm.
