If you don't mind waiting around 4 weeks you get get a Patriot dripper "clone" from fast-tech. The girlfriend also got the "Kraken". I ordered on 3/28/2014 and my order is still sitting in China. So it is a while to receive the order but you save a substantial amount of money. (Could use that savings on some E-juice from NT! :)).

Patience is definitely required on FT orders, but the prices can't be beat.

A bit curious on your choice of the Kraken - I don't have any genesis type rba's, but I've heard they can be a bit tricky to set up with the ss mesh and all. I would've gone for a kfl/russian type device instead, but that's just me.

Hello, some people on here told me to start building my Protank coils to get the hang of it.

Seems to me that it would be harder to rebuild a protank or similar atty compared to an atty that's made for rebuilding.

I skipped trying to rebuild those but I bet they are harder than rebuilding a dedicated rebuildable atty. Those companies want to sell you heads/coils so they are not going to make it as user friendly to rebuild. Skip them and go straight to RDA's or RTA's which are made for it and have more flavor and vapor anyway.

Valid points, but the intent was to allow the op to maximize the use of his existing equipment with minimal expense. A pt rebuild can be a pain because of the grommet and the limited working area, however the difference between the stock and rebuilt heads with cotton are night and day.

I am agreeing on all points here. The coil I built on the protank tasted night and day different from the stock coil. With that said, I still ordered replacement coils last night and will save all the wire etc I bought to use on a new atty. I went to a local b&m store here they don't sell kayfun but the guy there showed me his personal one and the "working coil area" is about 20 times bigger than trying to build a tiny coil to go into a tiny area on the protank. In this experience, I learned all the flavor REALLY comes out when building your own but I'm not that person that can do it consistently I don't think on the protank. Who knows! Maybe I'll tinker this weekend and build some more and then find it becomes much easier with more under my belt. But, I do know my options are either going to be buy a kayfun or buy those silly glasses that doctors use OVER their glasses just to see tiny areas. lol.

What are some of the top dripping atty's? So the only difference between a dripping and say a Kayfun would be that the kayfun stores a lot of liquid built into it?

btw, I really appreciate everyone's insight into all of this. You have all really encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone in the past 2 weeks and really try new things which in turn has really impacted and opened my eyes to better things!

My top RDA is the Trident V2 right now, very solid. It just went on sale at Fasttech recently, but you can get it stateside for about $10 more, give or take, and have it within a few days. I also really dig my Helios, it's contending for top spot and is a strong contender. (Make sure it has two holes on both sides, not the one that has just one side with two holes.) Both can be found on eBay in the $20-25ish range.

The main difference is with a dripper, you have to top up every dozen or so puffs with about 10-15 drops of liquid. That's fine for me when I'm just chilling, but I wouldn't want to drip while I'm driving or working myself. (Thus I run Kangers too, they're a bit easier to run than KFL's and the like...but I'm a field guy and size/convenience/ease of use matters to me.) I personally seem to prefer my RDA's over RBA's/RTA's, mainly because I like to change it up quite often.

After awhile, you can get pretty good at those Kangers and practically do them in your sleep. When you get into microcoiling them, it's nice to be able to switch out the wick pretty easily every week or so to maintain the top flavor. I would say do them a few dozen more times and you'll get a lot more comfortable with them.

And, when you're "comfortable" doing a pt rebuild you should be able to do a build for just about any atty'. Or, just go straight to a Reo' and save yourself some time . . . .

There is some truth in this, although the new PT coils are much easier than the old ones.
