Even with an auto battery, I definitely wouldn't call the eGo hands-free; it's just too heavy to hold comforably like that. It does, however, satisfy the battery life you're wanting, and could also handle lower resistance atomizers or dual-coil cartomizers (and be about as harsh as you want it to be). Also, there are cartomizers available which match the width of the eGo battery, making it much easier to fill straight from a bottle if that's your goal. They also hold enough to last several hours of continuous use. Note those cartomizers will also 'work' with a 510, but I've only seen dual-coils with this design, which means they'll drain a 510 in short order, and can possibly damage a 510.

If hands-free operation's your main priority, I'd definitely go with a 510 auto. It'll only last about 30 minutes of continuous vaping (with the lighter, standard battery), but you can always get a couple extra batteries and have the spent ones charging while you're vaping. It also helps to have multiple cartomizers filled and ready, if a long session's your goal.

I think I'm leaning towards the Joye eGo or 510, with an automatic battery. Seems like one of those might be the best bet for what I'm looking for. Hand's free, long lasting, affordable.

The 510 is my vape of choice, but I have horrible luck with atomizers. The longest one went ~8 days, the worst was 25 minutes

I have settled on cartomizers, and tend to go with LR (low reisistance) because they put out more steam. I also use high nic juice to keep the willies at bay. I have a couple of BIG battery mods (No Ego 18650) that last all day.
A lot of stuff is based on 510s, so you'll have no lack of parts.
Good Luck.

+1 on the Jazz Cartopipe - I have one and love it! Get a low nic juice, plenty of pipe tobacco type flavors around if that is your thing... Search for Romaniac on the forum and drop him a line... He's great to deal with and the pipe isn't quite as heavy as the E-Pipe mod ones I reckon... Good vapor and I puff away on it all night :) I am right now in fact :) Battery lasts me all evening, maybe refil the carto once or twice... I have the regular size carto version but he also offers a mega size. I think there is one for sale on the classified boards at the moment too...

Thanks Thulium and LFC. I think the way ahead for me is both of those. the Joye combo for longer low nic sessions while I'm studying and typing (maybe I have add, and having something to do like smoking helps me to stay focused on the project I am working on). Then for all those other times, when I want to just relax and have a vape, and also enjoy the feel of a nice piece of briar in my hand, the Jazz seems the way to go.

Next up.. do some research on liquids to find what is ideal. I've read some might still have some potentially unhealthy chemicals... so I'll want to steer clear of those probably... unless they all got the same stuff in the end.

Then I have to see if I will have any challenges getting any of this through Japanese customs... I'm headed there for a year of study.

Thanks again guys. great forum.

Not so simple I guess:

From Vicki:

the problem with the 510T is the cartridge is round tipped and it will be uncomfortable and strenuous to hold in your mouth. At least it would be for me.

You also need an automatic and we do not have the passthrus in automatic.

The other choice might be the eGo auto battery and the eGo cartomizers. They do well being bit too...

She also recommended what she uses, but it requires weekly maintenance that I probably don't want to get into yet.

Looks like I will go with a sort of hodgepodge of Joye pieces, that I can mix and match to find what works best for me in varying situations.

Vicki was amazing in her helpfulness. I mean, I bugged her with so many questions, and she was always responsive and helpful. I'm serious, if you could see the email thread, and I was next to you.. you would want to slap me in the head.

So, I'm getting combos of automatic and manuals, carts/atomizer options, with the passthru, yada yada..

Thanks Thulium again for your assist, and pointing me in the right direction. I't is likely that later on, I will add a Jazz to my gear as well.

Just touching base.

I think the answer to recreating the part of the pipe experience I wanted is the Joye Ego. Thanks for the tips that way. It is not too heavy to go hands free, and with the automatic bat, it's a great study aid. Vicki has been great for ordering. Only minor issues, is that so far, a couple of the batts on the ego seem to get tweaked an not work easily... maybe that is more of an anomaly, but Vicki says they are a bit sensitive. Still, happy with the solution though. The 510T is a nice short term smoke alternative or backup device. They seem so wonderfully portable, but that can be a bit deceiving, as I've broken a few carts in my pocket..which is why they make a nice carrying pouch. Really, this is more like a long lasting cigar experience...close enough for my needs.

Of course there is one part of the pipe experience that this does not give, and that is having a nice piece of briar in your hands. I plan to get one of those e-pipes someday for this, but I don't think there are any yet that are automatic and long lasting. So for now, the Ego is the ticket for me. Thanks for the assist here on the forum. Now, if I can just find a distributor in Japan..where am for the next year....
