We haven't had Saturday delivery in....well, EVER. We do have postal outlets open Saturdays to drop off parcels, but no delivery.

That said, they should pass on some of the savings to you for making this change.

Good luck on the passing the savings on. The US Gov. is pretty greedy much like any corp.

they already barely deliver to my house as it is! 'oh, it's snowy. oh, there's water. oh, you live out in the sticks. oh, this won't fit in your mailbox and we're afraid of the huge pack of dogs running up and down the fence. oh, your driveway is gravel.'

i'm gettin a PO box, dammit.

Props and ditto!!!!!!!

Not to rain on the USPS bash festival, as I have had my share of problems with them, but consider the immense complexity and changes in demographics in the last 50 years. To ask a federal agency with its inherent bureaucratic inefficiency to handle parcel delivery to every home in america at roughly the same price is completely unreasonable. No matter what any politician smoking crack has ever said about it being self supporting, it never was and never is going to happen. Throw in electronic communication and competition from FedEx / UPS, they are no longer a communication monopoly they were 50 years ago, and will never be able to adjust their cost basis to break even. In other words, they are far too inefficient to compete with private carriers. If they drop Saturday delivery, it will have a short term ripple effect, but private delivery will pick up the slack and it will be the beginning of the end for the agency. Maybe it's a good thing, maybe it's not; but any way to reduce the immense magnitude of costly, inefficient government overhead has got to be a good thing in the long run. Unfortunately, the people most affected will be the elderly, poor and underpriviledged sector of our sad society. I'm sure we will still be able to get our nic fix on Saturday, V4L will provide private carrier delivery at some point. Just my $0.02 :)
