You can also use an image host like photobucket, imgur, tinypic, and etc.

They all have resizing/cropping tools online and you just copy and paste their IMG codes into your post after you upload the images. It also doesn't fill up your attachment quota at ECF that way. :)

Oh this is good to know caffeinator, because I've not found a way to remove items from my attachment folder. there should be one.

can anyone tell me what the limits are on the picture sizes? is it the same as for avatars? 150x150 or 5gb?

it is not the same as avatar, avatar is between 5 or 20 kb more or less, images can go much bigger.

BTW a 5 GB i think is a typo , a 5 gb file is enough to make a 500 feet x 500 feet print or bigger ,

I think you are trying to post image from your camera and those should be JPG , if you are using max quality on a modern cam you may be getting a 2 o 3 mb jpg un opened file, you have to re-size it no bigger 300 kb to be accepted by the forum but i am not sure how big the image should be I am just sure that around 100 kb is accept it

I know large images get resized to fit the page, but the image itself is unaffected. So, if you right-click, open image in the browser, it'll be the full size.

I take images at 6MP for clarity, but that means they are like 2-3MB each.

I use XnView to resize them down to a maximum of 1000 pixels of width (shift+s in the program), which is usually big enough but still have a filesize of only around 100-200KB. I doubt very many people would be using a screen rez of less than 1024x786 these days...usually it's far higher.. :)

If you're on a PC, download something like Irfanview, and use the Image, Resize/Resample option.
Irfanview is free. Find it with google. (Alternatives are available.)

Irfanview is my favorite and the only viewer I use but it could be a little complicated for those not use to deal with graphics, I do all my jobs on PS and Irfanview is just a viewer for me but windows has a program that allows to resize images

Yes that's right, lis. a Youtube video embedded here is essentially like when you use an external image site and hotlink that image in your post. The bandwidth to actually display that media does not pass through ECFs servers. Essentially, the embed code just runs a script and references the external link and the video feed is entirely between Youtube and your computer

At least that's the way I understand it, I'm not a full-fledged computer geek so may not be explaining it exactly right ;-)
