I'm attemping my first microcoil. I've seen many people use a 1/16th inch drill bit to wrap it around. At the B&M I goto, I was told to use a 3.0 mm precision screwdriver? Since I don't have any drill bits I'm going to use a screwdriver. What size should I use and how many wraps?

I'm using the wire that came with my Russian 91. No idea what gauge it is.

Using a 1/16" drill bit....9-10 wraps of 30ga. kanthal will yield ~2.0 ohms...
I made my own jig using a piece of scrap wood, sheet screw and a piece of .0625" steel rod...
Sorry....can't help on the screwdriver issue...
Suggest you just wind a coil on what you have...then MEASURE RESISTANCE BEFORE FIRING!! Then adjust the turns as needed for the ohms you're shooting for....if you can't find the "sweet spot", go up or down a wire gauge...
Good Luck!

I have a cheap micro screw driver set, like the eyeglass sets you can get, bought from Home Depot. It has three different sized flat screwdrivers in it, one of which is 1.4 mm which is 0.055", so 0.007" under 1/16". That works just fine for me for micro coil wrapping.

I actually think that's a standard in those screwdrivers, but not sure :thumb:

I personally like using blunt nose syringe needles. Nice and rigid, lightweight, cheap and easy to find, work great for assisting the mounting of the coil and threading the cotton through the coil. I use both 18 & 16 gauge needles for my micro builds, depending on the ohms I want and the length of coil I'm after. Different attys and wicking delivery constraints require different dimensions and needs. I've used a large paper clip, 1/16" drill bit, a small screw driver, anything small and round will work. Heck people even use tooth picks, Q-tips, and sewing needles. I use the blunt tip syringe needles, because I have them for my DIY juice mixing, and they are quite useful in much of the build process beside just wrapping. Going to get me some spares so that when I do dual builds, don't have to keep pulling them out of one coil, to insert it in the other one while mounting. lol

Like with all things vape, one needs to play around with things till they find what works best for you.

Yep.

No hard fast rules to diameter, # of coils, gauge and wick... other than the practical limits of size, resistance and safe operation - as in safe to the user, both externally and internally.

Wouldnt safety pins/clips and blunt needles be considered nano coils.. Or pls correct me

Cheers

I dunno. I do know it works efficiantly, and vapes very well....

Todays coil. 30g kanthal, six wrap, .7ish ohms. Paperclip.

With these, I like how everything stays nice and cool.

And yes I did move that small scrap of wire. Only noticed because of the picture!

yes and nol Nano, micro, nano dragon, they are all basically the same beast just using a different alias. As long as it works and is repeatable and consistent, it's just a tomato buy any other name. or was that tomatoe, every thing I build I use some of this idea and some of that one, and just do what works best for me till I think, hmm what if I did it this way? Even the twisty wisty timey whimey builds, are they micro's or are they Doctor Who builds. lmao!! Game changer or just game player? As long as one gets great vape and is having fun, it just don't matter imho.
