It'd be best not to vape although it is a lot safer than smoking, it's still a potential risk. I would think that vaping e-liquid with nicotine would be bad for the pregnancy. Nicotine is a poison which would not be good for the fetus. As for no nic e-liquid, I have no idea but play it safe and don't vape during the duration of the pregnancy. Also if you're going to breast feed, then it'd still be a good idea to restrain from vaping.

I started vaping though to get me away from the very harmful toxins that are in cigarettes, which I believe is a hell of a lot more than ecigs, from what I have read.
So if I'm trying to stop the cigarettes I can't go cold turkey so am going to need some kind of nicotine replacement ???

Only you can decide whether or not you will need nicotine replacement. I smoked half as much as you and started out at 6mg which is the least amount of nic I have seen without going to 0. I don't have any cravings and it satisfies me just fine.

The following is my personal opinion. If my wife was a smoker and got pregnant I would be ECSTATIC that she swapped to e-cigs and I would support her decision and efforts to the utmost of my ability. Even if she used high nicotine liquid, I would consider it by far the better choice for momma's and babies health.

If you're looking for a definitive answer on whether or not e-cigs are completely safe you won't find it at this time. The link I provided earlier has some good info but may be difficult to decipher. Do a search on the benefits of quitting smoking for additional info.

Best of luck to you and the baby and wish you both the best of health and happiness!

Hi Emma,
When I was pregnant, the one thing I couldn't completely give up was smoking. Vaping wasn't an option then, or at least not one that I knew about. I think it's good that you are talking with your Dr. about this. Even if s/he doesn't know much about vaping, it's important that you keep the Dr informed of what you're doing. Like everyone has said, there are a lot of things we don't know for sure about vaping. It's your decision and you've got to go with what feels like the better decision to you. If you decide that is vaping, then know that there are a lot of people on here (including me) who will support you and help you vape as safely as possible. :) Once you make a decision, try to relax. I know easier said than done...lol But what we know for a fact is that stress can negatively affect unborn babies. *hugs*
Edit: I didn't mean to make it sound like we, or I, would only be here to support you if you chose vaping. No matter what you decide is best for you and your baby, you will find a lot of support on here. :) and congrats!

First off, congratulations!!! Wish you all the best!

Secondly ... the angel in your belly gets all of its oxygen through your own blood. Carbon Monoxide, a huge part of cig smoke, goes into your blood and prevents (or greatly reduces) oxygen's ability of sticking to your blood cells - then reaching your cells, fetus etc.

With vapor this is not the case. This fact alone makes vaping a much, much better alternative for you.

Don't stress, take care and all the best for you!
