NEW smok RSBT Hybrid - Pyrex tank w/ ALL Stainless
$42.95 $39.00

Introducing the SMOKtech RSBT Hybrid. RSBT stands for Rebuildable Stainless Bottom-coil tank. Shipped with pre-installed 1.7ohm (+/- .2ohm) Single Coil. Extra parts packet including wick, wire, screws, spings, o-ring. This is likened to the Kayfun with its domed chimney enclosure over your coil/wick build

From SMOKtech:
  • RSBT is not a simple knockoff. It's a greatly improved Rebuildable Stainless Air controlable Bottom Coil Tank.
  • The isolation ring at bottom makes it a perfect model for rba beginners. VSS mesh wick, cotton wick and silica wick are all available on this device.
  • Comes with a luxury pyrex & stainless glass drip tip, and a lot of spare parts for all the set up.
  • It's a brother of RSST.
  • Performs best when you max the air control and do a deep lung inhale.
  • 28-32awg kanthal wire is recommended.
  • You can also do a mirco coil for this tank if you have those skills
  • Remember to use IMR batteries of large amps which is really important while doing a mirco coil (for safety purposes).

FEATURES:
  • This unit has a nice air flow control ring at the base that is easy to twist but stays in place. It has 5 airholes so you can dial in a wide range of air flow to your taste.
  • It is all stainless except of course for the 4ml Pyrex tank that is protected with an outer brushed stainless cover that is windowed.
  • The build deck is fairly simple. Coil your wick with leads for the positive and negative posts. Insert and use the thumbscrews to secure the wiring. Trim the wick to desired length into the well. SMOK pre-coils and wicks this with just a smidegen leading out of the channels into the glass tank.
  • This unit provides a Philips head adjustable battery contact that can be adjusted perfectly for your battery or mod.
  • Fill port located at the top with a Philips head screw securing the tank that must be unscrewed to fill the tank.
  • Comes with a luxury thick Pyurex drip tip with a stainless steel collar. This can be replaced with most any other 510 drip tips.
  • Comes with a spare parts package that includes wire, wick, O-rings, screws, springs and a mini Philips screw driver.
  • Dimensions: 48mm high; 22mm wide; 26mm high Pyrex tip

Very nice looking RBA, looks like I will have to get one to do a video on building it.!

Finally pulled the trigger on this one and got it yesterday. Used it all last night and this afternoon thus far, while comparing it side by side to my kayfun. Not sure which one is better yet but the RSBT is definitely worth while and I am liking it.

Woody, a build video would be very worth while because there are very few out there on youtube right now. Build is fairly simple, but I think there can be some variations of do you fill the whole deck/well with cotton or use just enough to go through the coil/channels. Plus none of the videos out there are addressing how to fill, which I can see leading to flooding issues. I learned the hard way about how it can flood... syringe tip is highly recommended.

I have one of these and like it, especially the air flow, but I sometimes have a problem with it not keeping up with a low-ish (0.8) ohm build and getting burned hits. I was going to try a rayon wick today, but I broke the tank. I cannot find a replacement tank anywhere for sale. Please let me know if anyone is aware of any.

My experience with it thus far (I now own three rsbts) is that
A) you will have to adjust your coil diameter to something where what you wrap on can fit into the openings of the deck if you wrap big diameter. I was doing .086" diameter on my kayfun but has to go to something smaller like .074 as that's roughly the opening size if I reminder correctly. Changing to what fits in channels will make for easier install of coil.
B) cotton. How much to use and where? I tried just a single piece through the coil across the openings with no good luck. I always seemed to get burnt taste after some use. I've had better luck with filling the well with some cotton too, but you must mind the airflow hole and make openings in the stuffed cotton in well. Otherwise you will have a wet, tight draw despite full open air flow.
C) I'm still working on this but it seems like my coils don't last long at all with this RBA. I'm doing cotton through coil and in well and after one single tank I'll dry burn coil to get gunk off, but off flavor due to coil occurs quick on second build with original coil. I'm watching my two new builds to further verify or disprove this, but first one I had I've had to rebuild each time because the second use with new wick after dry burn keeps going fast towards off taste like gunked up coil. I run 2.0 ish ohm coils at 12.5 watts roughly (5v on provari, 12.5 watts exact on vapor shark rDNA).

After my two new builds are emptied out, I'll examine and evaluate my coils to further verify longevity or not.

I got mine today. My observations/ opinions so far:
1) First off, I'm not sure if the tank and drip tip are PERSPEX (plastic) not PYREX (glass)? If so, I'm a bit disappointed as I believed this was supposed to have a glass tank (which seemed to be a good option, as no risk of juices cracking it and the protective "sleeve" to stop it breaking if it falls over).
2) I was pleased to find a coil/ wick already fitted (as well as some spare wire/ wick in the bag that came with it) BUT don't do what I did and just fill the tank and go - I got a horrible burnt metallic taste (from the coil, I think?), accompanied by a plasticky taste (which is partly why I suspected a perspex tank/ drip tip?). After trying for a while just drawing and puffing out the smoke from my mouth, without lung inhale (definitely!) and trying to ignore any off smells at the back of my nose/ throat, I gave up and poured out the juice before disassembling everything and washing in very hot water with a little washing-up liquid. I then just fitted the base (with coil and wick, obviously!) to my Vamo and pulsed it until the coils glowed red - then rinsed it again.
3) After reassembling, the flavour is improved (though a bit muted, I think) - but I'm getting some slight gurgling if I let it stand, then after half a dozen or so good pulls on it I'm occasionally getting dry hits. As this is my first RBA (I've been rebuilding coils for my Protanks/ Evods up to now) I guess there's a learning curve, but I'm not over-impressed with it so far. I'm going to rebuild the coil (1.8 ohm as it came)/ wick and stuff some cotton wool in the base to see if I can fix both the gurgling and dry hit issues - we'll see...

P.S. Good tip above - use a syringe to fill; I tried without (using a dropper bottle) and after just a little goes in the tank the pressure inside forces the juice back out and it just runs over the top/ side of the tank.

Ok, an update to the above - going to Smok's website reassures me that the tank IS in fact pyrex glass (when I took it out of the box the tank had a slight scratch about 1/4" long which, along with the initial plasticky taste I'd mentioned, made me think the material was perhaps not glass). Their website also states that the supplied drip-tip is stainless steel and "Pyurex" - I can't find anywhere on the internet what that's supposed to be, so I'm taking it as being a typo and should read "Pyrex" i.e.also glass. I've not rebuild the coil/wick yet (been busy) so am putting up with the initial few gurgles each time I return to vaping it, and the taste is gradually improving. I should also mention in its favour that the airflow control is superb (and the threading generally is excellent) plus it does throw out a really good amount of vapour (still getting occasional dry hits though - will have to get around to trying to rebuild the coil/ wick and adding cotton in the base, as an earlier post recommends, to see if that solves it).

Further update: I rebuilt the coil using 3x2mm silica wick (with a straightened paper clip temprary core) wrapped with 7 turns of 28 gauge Kanthal (which I torched first). Removing the paper clip (!) and mounting the assembly gave 1.8 ohms according to my Vamo V5 (I'd already stuffed the well with cotton wool, making sure to keep the airhole free). The thumbscrews are rather fiddly, so having read elsewhere that the screws are M1.6 I measured the thread length (before fitting the coil) as 4mm and have ordered some cross-head (Philips) screws and will try these next time. I had to reduce the strength of the 12mg juice I was using (added some VG) as this hits hard with plenty of vapour, more flavour (in spite of "cutting" with VG!) no gurgling and no dry hits (so far!). Much happier with it now! :)

Posts like this that have this detail are invaluable, tyvm hotshot for relating your experiences. I am sorry but was not monitoring the forum the past three days. But yes the tip is pyrex with a stainless collar at the base. The tank is Pyrex....

My *clone* Launcher 2 arrived today and - coupled with my RSBT is awesome! More than one way to coil this - as I was trying to rewick the coil built as described in my earlier posts, I managed to snap the wire. The silica wick had been working ok, but due to occasional dry hits I'd stuffed the base with cotton - which worked ok, but I found that I was wasting a lot of juice which was wicking into the cotton but not really accessible for vaping. Anyway, 7 turns of 28 gauge kanthal around two 1.5mm drill bits gave me an oval coil of 1.5 ohms; I've got used to building this type of coil as a single coil solution for my "dual coil" Evod's and Protanks so can do it quite quickly. On these I usually wick with a loop of 2mm silica, pulled through with a needle threader (makes it easy to rewick too!) but decided to wick using cotton this time and with no cotton wool in the base. I also replaced the thumbscrews with M1.6 x 4mm Philips/Cross-head screws - much better IMO. I fitted a kick, set to 8 watts, into the Launcher 2, filled the RSBT with my favourite juice of the moment (I now use a needle-tip bottle for filling as I've had the RSBT flood from the airholes while filling, due to pressure build up) and WooHoo! Plenty of flavour and lots of vapour - great! :)
