I ordered some Premium blank cartos from Litecig and some regular blanks (both for the kr808d-1) to try them both out and see if I liked one or the other better.
The only problem is that I can't tell them apart
Does anyone know which is which?
This post will answer the OP question and illustrate observed differences
(in addition to the hard cap/soft cap difference) between the LiteCig Regular
and Premium cartos for the KR808D-1.
I am relatively new to the ECF and
vaping in general. So this is not to be
an exhaustive review of performance or
vaping quality. But I did promise
to share my findings about resistance in these cartos.
My order of cartos arrived today from LiteCig (Thanks Shawn!)
I ordered one 5 pack of each, Premium and 'Regular' KR808d-1 cartomizers.
(Plus a new XL manual battery and a bottle of RY4 for good measure.)
KR808d-1 PREMIUM Blank Cartomizers
The Premiums are individually wrapped and packaged in a box almost
identical to an order received from "The Other Guy" (TOG), which are
reported to be manufactured by Boge.
TOG calls his "mega" cartos, which are rated at 3.4 ohms. I've been
using them on a 5v PT. But wanted to find some just like them with
a lower ohm rating to use with the 3.7v battery.
The LiteCig Premiums are labeled with 302D 3ohm on the box top.
(Sorry that pic is a little out of focus.)
I metered three of the five cartos. Two measured 3.2 ohms, while one
measured just 2.2 ohms. I labeled the 2.2 and set it aside for another day.
The carto caps are the soft type and easily removed. Looking down
inside the carto from the open cap end reveals this is the premium
design I was hoping for.
A slightly heavy atomizer wire running straight rather than coiled,
along with fiber material that practically sucks juice into it.
On my 5v PT it's performance is almost identical to TOG cartos I've
been using.
On the new manual XL the vapor is a bit cooler than I was looking
for, but definitely acceptable.
KR808d-1 Blank Cartomizers
The 'regular' cartos appear to be from a different manufacturer. Most
likely these are Kangers based on descriptions I've read in ECF.
These are also boxed. I did not realize these were the common blister
packs I've seen around until opening the box.
These do have the hard caps. But the caps can be removed and
replaced with a spare soft cap (not included).
The 'regular' cartos are also slightly shorter in length than the Premiums,
but still hold just as much fluid (approximately 1.2 ml on first filling.)
These also have the longer plug built into the condom for the battery end.
I removed two from the blister pack to test for resistance. Both
measured 2.8 ohms.
Design of the atomizing wire itself is the biggest difference
between the Premiums (Boge) and Regular (Kanger). These
regular cartos appear to have a coiled atomizer which is not
visible at all from the open end of the carto.
Primary differences between the Premiums and regular are:
3.2 ohm v. 2.8 ohm
straight wire v. coiled
soft v. hard caps
Boge v. Kanger (assumption based on ECF reports)
Personal opinion:
I'm glad I decided to purchase BOTH types so I could try them myself
and see the difference. The differences in resistance give me
more options for using at different voltages or juice mixes.
The new 'regular' cartos from LiteCig are a much higher quality
than regular coiled wire cartos I've been using with my batts. The
higher resistance in these will help the batteries last longer while
keeping the vapor cooler.
The filler material is also better and is the same as that in the Premium.
While many in the ECF call the Kangers "cheap" quality, these
are definitely better than what I have been using on my batts.
I do like the Premium (Boge) straight wire design better than
the coils. My experience with coiled wire is that they tend to
clog up with juice rather easily.
A lower resistance in the Premiums would be preferred. At 3.2 ohms
there is no noticeable difference from TOG... except that LiteCig
has better prices. :~)
My plan is to use the new 'regular' cartos on the batteries and
keep the Premiums on the 5v PT.
I will, however, keep looking for a Boge carto with a ~2.8 ohm rating
to eventually replace the coiled wire Kangers on my batteries.
