Hey brother...
I'm playing on an Ibanez Soundgear 5 stringer right now (love the action and neck) but I still have my 5 string Carvin. Been doing 5strings for the last four years. I'm also playing through a "Mark Bass" system. Awesome growl.
Welcome to ECF. I actually got a kick out of this thread.

An amateur bass player myself. Taught myself to play a couple of years ago after years and years of always listening to the bass parts of songs. (I can read music; I played trumpet in high school.) I only play along with You Tube music videos now, but it's fun and fulfills some strange need I have. Not bad for a 59 y/o guy?

I own a Yamaha RBX 170 4-stringer. Below is my bass. Can you tell I'm a fan of Eddie Van Halen? How about the rest of you guys? What basses do you play?

Sorry to the Mrs's, but you know how we bass playa's can be talking about gear. :D

What kinda music do you play, BassPlayer? I like classic rock (Mel with Grand Funk), progressive rock like Muse, symphonic rock like Nightwish. Also like some smooth jazz.

What strings do you use? I'm using LaBella flatwounds.

I grew up playing country. Moved to the classic rock as a teen (of course it was current rock at the time, lol).
Got into blues. I play with three different bands right now but the main band plays a variety from Johnny Cash to Lady GaGa. Mostly blues though. I'm kinda experimenting with strings right now. Looking for that perfect feel for the bass I'm using now. I have flatwounds on my Carvin.

Whaddya all think?

She's beautiful, how does she sound?

Hubby's Carvin is a Bunny Brunel sig model. Great sound. I cant remember what strings he has on him, just that they are flat wound. It's a monster bass. Thick neck, I dont know how people with smaller hands could really play it. I have tried just for fun, but i have small hands and my fingers refuse to stretch that far.

The new Ibanez has some E.B. Slinky round wounds on her that he is trying out. The Ibanez truly growls.. amazing sound. She is so heavy! She looks smaller than the Carvin, but she is heavier for sure. Nice neck on her.

We are currently looking for a good acoustic bass. The problem seems to be that they are so quiet next to regular acoustic guitars. I have seen a couple I wish we could get, but they sure are expensive, lol. Not sure if we had 3 grand to spend on equipment, that we wouldnt be looking at a new tower for the amp, but, he's the pro, his call :)

Baditude, we listen to a lot of Jonny Lang, but not many newer artists tbh. As we are both *over 40* we listen to a great deal of older rock, and blues. I have everything from 70's Alice Cooper to Yanni, so I am not the one to ask, lol. He shudders when I pick the music, lol. Though, i did once get him to listen to a fav Barbra Streisand song that has a sexy bass line ;)

He (Marshall) doesnt have the chance to read the forum as much as I do.. so I will bow out, but didnt want you guys to think he's ignoring the thread, he is just always so busy :)
